Anybody try an MCACE in a BLR? Understand bolt is easier, but a take down BLR is convenient. To put a 7.62x39 through a .308 or 30-06 youre modifying the chamber itself and feeding rounds into it (at least that's how I read it). Wonder if the mag on a BLR would hold 7.62x39?

A thought;
On Saturday I sighted in a Mossy slug shotgun for a friend. I had basically bore sighted it at home..then went to my woods to finish the job. My county and several neighboring counties saw the light and went from shotguns to rifles just a couple years ago, but shotguns are mandatory just a few miles north of me and some guys still prefer shotguns with slugs.
Now with the new "super diddle" slugs going from $2 to $4 per shot..a .22 LR barrel adapter would save many $$ if I had to do this task often. It would help with the various caliber H&R rifles also.
As it was, three slugs put me near where I wanted it on paper, but being a day hovering near 0 Farenheit, my friend saw just how I brought it in toward zero, and can do the finishing touches on a warmer day.
Surely, an adapter would save many bucks, if one were sighting in appropriate guns very often.

i have 3-38/357 adapters for 12gage they are 2.5 inches long

when the kids were little i loaded the 9 in o/u [NFA] 12GA
with a handle off the back of a drill for a stock
fit a five year old perfect
they could handle the 38 shot shells well
and looked really cool carrying it

i still shoot them some times with shot just for low noise pest control
i think i will tinker with them this week after reading this thread

also had a 222 to 22Lr adapter......i don't know why but liked it
i think i want to shoot 32 long colts i loaded up for my mom in my 308
where can i find such an adapter

the various shot sizes and slugs makes the most sense
but for quiet point blank......get the adapter
for an accessory to your shot gun and your hand gun...get the adapter

AND NEVER FOGET FUN AND TINKERING......GET THE ADAPTER

For "most" of them, accuracy isn't great, unless you take the time to shoot them enough to sort them out... BUT, if you buy the "good stuff", like the ones from Krieghoff pictured below, they are very accurate and very usefull. I hunt with mine quite often and have put a lot of meat in my freezer with them. They are quiet and you can store a lot of ammo in a small space.

I just thought i'd post an update with a pict. of a fox i shot the other day. I shot it using an insert bbl. in my drilling, and as i wanted the pelt to be in the best condition possible, the 22 was the best possible choise!

This insert bbl. sure is handy to have along when hunting, as i never know what i may see when i'm out hunting for the day.

Savage 24V a poor mans drilling. Looks a lot better than one with three different size tubes that puts me in mind of a plumbers nightmare. And now they are chambering some interesting and useful calibers like 12 ga on the bottom and 357 max on the top. Now that will be a versitile gun.

I agree, i'm in that boat too... I paid $350.00 for my drilling and then rebuilt it from there... I could have bought a nice scoped drilling about 6 months ago for $1,500.00... It was in Florida... About 5 days ago i was offered a NICE scoped drilling on line for $2,750.00... There's deals around, if you look for them, and either drilling above could have been bought for a little less someone would have tried.

Also, the adapter i have doesn't have to be installed in a drilling. It can be fit to any single bbl, S&S or 0/U shotgun...

Anyway, a decent drilling cost a lot LESS than the 5, 7, or 10 guns most guys already have in the closset...

Too bad Savage didn't finish the job to get those 24's to be decent guns... It takes about 10 minutes on line to find all kinds of guys that bought them and complain about them... I've owned a few myself, and they are a pooooor combo gun.

Drillings are well built and reliable, and a world away from a plumbers nightmare... Now, trying to get one of those Savages to shoot both bbls to the sights, that's the real nightmare... I refuse to depend on a gun that you have to aim "over there" to get it to shoot "over here!"

HUH? A drilling has THREE different bbls, and sometimes they are three different cals, sometimes not... If they are from the same maker, they are of equal quality, performance and durability... (read that to say, they are EXCELENT)

My drilling is probably 3 times older than you are, and is still working like new!

I have 3 different ones. 12Ga that takes a 410 shell.Great for starting out kids. 3006 that shoots a 32ACP and a 308 that shoots a 32ACP These are in my kit to take small game where you don't want to make a lot of noise. I live in NJ and it is very populated with Grass eaters-The people type! Quiet is good. They all work great-I also have a 22LR that goes on the 223 AR They all shoot to the sights. J.Michael

Unfortunately, Savage stopped making the 24 series.

I have a few adapters, they are fun at the range and for kids to play with. But they are too much bother to take into the field in my opinion.

Interesting thread here. I have considered getting the adaptors, never did cause I couldn't talk to the guy. As any of us "Gun People" know, the only reason to have something is you want it. I just got into a Savage 24, 30-30 over 20g and haven't shot it yet, but think it would be a good combo unit to have here in MT. To each his own as is proven by this run of posts. DP

I use 2 1/2" adapters in a 20 ga. singleshot. I've got 'em for .38 and .22lr. I carry my 20 ga when I just go woodsbumming. I've used the adapters a lot and have had a lot of fun with them.
I don't see everyone getting their underwear all crumpled up about this...sure, it would be nice to carry a shotgun and an AK and a .223 varmint wizgun and an M1 Garand in 30-06. But all at the same time??
Some guys, me included, actually LIKE to just carry one gun and be able to use it for different tasks....THAT IS ALL THIS IS ABOUT. I see definite uses for adapters in a survival situation. I personally am not trying to kill cape buffalo...just woodsbum, that's all. I want to be armed when I'm in the sticks and have something handy, that's all. If I got stuck out overnight with a twisted ankle, I'm ok...it's not a Weatherly magnum but it's ok. I've dropped a few jackrabbits with both the .38 and the .22 out of my 18 1/2" barrelled 20 ga singleshot. It works pretty darn good at close range...but to me THAT'S THE POINT. These adapters aren't target wonders at 500 yds...nobody is gonna argue with that but they have a purpose within certain guidelines. But if you think about it, you weren't planning on long-range hunting when you grabbed the shotgun in the first place, were you?
I carry a little plastic fishing tacklebox with several rounds of different ammo for my adapters that fits in a cargo pocket of my pants. It's a great solution FOR ME. I also carry a few 20 ga slugs and buckshot rounds if I want to blast a little heavier than my usual duck-load 20 ga shells.
If I anticipate elephant, I'll carry something more serious.

This topic has been real interesting. Opinionated, but interesting. When I shot a squirrel w/a 20 ga slug -wish I'd had an adapter. When I shot one w/a .45LC -wish I'd had an adapter. When I shot one w/a .58 ML, -wish I'd had a slingshot. But at least a meal, if not a feast. Nobody mentioned interchangeable cylinders, but there's an adapter. Had an old guy tell me he used to shoot 16 ga shells in a 12 by sticking them in the cut-off hull of a 12 ga; saved him 10 cents a box. It was a survival situation -the depression. Sometimes something just has to adapt, be it gun or shooter, and a low-cost option can't hurt. One of these days, (when I'm probably out of shells), I'm gonna make an adapter so I can shoot .32 Colt in a .32 rimfire. But for deer, roadkill works. I've adapted.

I made an adapter once. Bored out an old military barrel to 410, and turned the outside to fit in a 20 ga. Never did use it much.

I recently finally got lucky on eBay and purchased a 10th edition copy of "Handloader Digest" for a specific article on making special loads for the .444 marlin, from .410 like shotshells to small game loads (on .44 Mag or special hulls) to full-house .444 biggame loads.

I'm thinking the same ideas (philosophies) could ALSO be applied to making special loads for the .45/70 and .460 S&W cartridges ......

I realy like my mcace adapter ... in a plastice round snuff can I can carry 20 .32 ACP and the adapter,, for my .308 win. I load them lighter then factory loads for a low report . So I can, in a minute change my deer gun to a small game camp plimker,, all for $20 at mcace.. At 50 to over 100 feet they have a two inch group -- In a survival sitution it would worth its weight in gold.... If you don't like that kinda stuff ,,,,,,don't get one I have one and like it

I have used the MCA adapters in a 308 and a 30-06. I used the 7.65 Luger and 7.62x25 adapters in a Rem 788 in 308 - it was fun and you could handload some pretty accurate subsonic ammo. In the 30-06 I added a 32 acp adapter - also fun.

I saw a Dina Arms Corp add in the last Shotgun News and went to their website as I have not been able to contact Ace Dube of MCA Sports for over a year - I think he has contracted out to Sportsman's Guide to make their 32 acp adapters for the 308 and 06 and might be pretty busy as a result.

The Dina Arms adapters are a bit different in that they are rifled - these are shotgun barrel adapters that fire pistol rounds. I have thought of picking a couple up for a older single shot 16 guage I have but the only sight on that oldie is a bead and I'm not so sure of the accuracy capability with a set-up like that.

I would probably be better off with a single shot 12 guage that has a scope mount capability for adjustment purposes - you can get adapters for the 12 ga. in 38/357, 9, 45 acp, 45 Colt to name a few. Standard loads in the last two calibers should be very quiet from a long shotgun barrel - handy to have around the house for garden pests and the like. jmtcw.

The Dina Arms versions are still only 2 1/2" long, so how much affect can the rifling really have? Shooting the .38/357 or .44 out of my old stevens 94 12ga cut to 20" with a MCACE 2.5" adapter you get a quiet smoothbore carbine with minute of pie plate accuracy at close range.

Have you ever fired a 2" revolver??? I have and they are amazeing accurate! I've shot a lot of grouse and rabbits for the pot, with a short bbled pocket gun!

I'm not saying that brand of adapter is good or bad though, as i don't have one to test.

I've got a couple snubbies in 357 and 32, 2" barrels and they're great. Just wondering how much difference 2" makes. But I just got out my adapters which I wouldve sworn I got from mcace and they're rifled for 1.5".

Some of those adapters are made of aluminum, and you have to wonder how long the aluminum rifleing will last with guilding metal bullets going through them.
