Remoiving bolt on Rossi 1892 for cleaning
« on: January 30, 2007, 05:21:30 PM »
Just bought a new EMF Hartford 1892 "Rossi".  How do I remove lever, then the bolt for cleaning?

I'd suggest getting a book on it.  David Chicoine's book "Gunsmithing Guns of the Old West", the newest expanded edition covers the Winchester and the Rossi, as well as about any gun you may want to use in SASS/CAS matches.

There is a screw on the side of the receiver, directly across from a hole on the opposite side.  Removing that screw (which is a plug) allows you to drift the lever/bolt pin out of the frame (toward the screw side).  You have to look down the hole to see when the hole is lined up with the pin, the lever has to be moved to position it.

The question you're going to be asking is, "How the %@!!& do I put this back together??!!" ;D

I'll second Flint's advice, you're going to want a book on the subject.  Be patient when putting the bolt back in while holding the ejector in place.  It's going to be a little tricky until you get the hang of it.  Make sure the cartridge stop spring is facing the correct way.  It's easy to put it in wrong, and the rifle just won't cycle very well that way.

The '92 isn't bad once you get the hang of it.  I shoot cartridges loaded with Goex through mine all the time, so I have to pull it apart a couple of times every year.  It just takes practice, and a good set of instructions with good pictures.
