:-\Well any Knights are good shooters, I haven't heard of a bad one, and when I did you could probably blame human error. I own several, as I do many others. The Knight will shoot with the best of them. It is sure a matter of preference,(one man fancy one mans hate). As for price, yes that is a good price, and it is a better choice than CVA etc. You can not go wrong buying one.  :) Lou

Yep, that's a good one, and a heck of a price...

Knight had the market until T/C came out with the Omega a few years back...Everyone bought in to the "easier to clean" marketing...It does take a little longer to clean but I still like a Knight....I own a Knight Disc myself....I'll try to be unbiased and give you the pros and cons...

1st...I think that's a Knight Disc Extreme...I actually like the straight comb on that gun better than on my Knight disc...It takes Knight's red disc...You install the 209 primer into the disc and then install the red primer into the breach and close the bolt...Some guys don't like this, I actually do, because the discs are easier to handle than just the 209s, and after the shot you simple open the bolt, remove the disc and install another for the next shot...I use my discs 2-3 times, just take a punch and punch out the primer....I guess Knight would prefer that I buy a new one for each shot, but I have done this for years...I bought 300 of the dsics for mine this spring at a local sporting goods store, they are 10 bucks for a 100...

A Knight has a Green Mountain barrel, they make some of the best...

A Knight comes with an adjustable trigger, the Omega doesn't...

A Knight has a safety, same position as on a Remington 700...The Omega has a hammer....

A Knight also has a screw safety...It restricts how far the bolt will move, preventing it from firing, until you back it off....I like this, because you can screw the safety in, pull the gun up in the tree with you and then screw the safety back to the fire position...Its nice and quiet, with and Omega you drop the trigger block, install the 209 and then push the trigger block back up, which makes a loud "click"...Some guys have complained that they missed a chance at a deer because they forgot to screw the safety back in, but I have never done this...Guess they just got excited...

As far as cleaning, you have to remover the breech plug from both rifles, with the Knight you also have to remove the bolt, takes maybe 1-2 minutes...You also need to disassemble the bolt and clean it, takes another 3-5 munutes....So it might take an additional 6-8 minutes to clean the Knight over the Omega....I'd rather have the adjustable trigger and the ease of installing and removing the 209 primer myself....

My favorite whitetail loads are ....Currently a 250 T/C Shockwave over 90 grains of Pyrodes R-S...Sighted in 2 1/2 inches high at 100 yards, I'm 2 1/2 low at 150...Groups are under a 1 1/2 inch at 100 and about 2-2 1/2 at 150...

Previous to using the Shockwave I used the Barnes 300 grain copper over 100 grains of Goex FF or 2 Pyrodex pellets....

Hope this helps, good luck...

I have always have to laugh when I here that "they are hard to clean".I have a DISC and a DISC Extreme. What is so hard to clean? The only time I had any problem I was the one who caused it.I pulled the breech plug and was too lazy to re-lube it.I was able to remove it but it was tough. As for the bolt, all you have to do is un-screw the firing pin drip on the cleaner of your choice and wipe. That's hard?I think some want a no maintanence ML.There's no such thing.I rather be assure that all the parts are clean and functioning.

sounds like it's a pretty good rifle then.   taking a bolt apart is no problem, it sounds like this has a pretty simple bolt.
it's got to be simpler than the bolt in my mosin-nagant ;D
looks like i have a decision to make,  i've been leaning strongly towards getting a H&R sidekick, but this is intriguing.
from what i hear the H&R is a pretty good rifle too, soooo that makes it that much harder

the discs are pretty much a one shot deal then?

I'd call and find out if it uses red jackets or the orange inserts.  I don't think Knight made an Extreme with a 24" barrel.  I've had 4, and they were all 26".  At that price, I bet it's the old model with orange inserts.  I don't think the picture is right either. The old rifle didn't have the straight comb stock, it was the monte carlo.  If it is the old one, you can get a conversion kit for the red jackets that have a new bolt for $60.  If you went that route, you'd still have a new Knight for $230.

The red ones are newer for the Knight Disc Extreme...I have the orange ones for a Knight Disc...frankly I think Knight got it right the first time....The red disc are suppose to be water-tight...They had a commercial showing them shooting a Disc Extreme after putting the gun under water...

I reuse the orange discs that I have, 2-3 times...

I would buy that gun, if it is the older one, I would not convert to the new system (In fact I do have the older one and have no plans to change)...The older disc still used a 209 primer, that's what's important, I have used my Knight Disc in our rainy weather here in NC...2 years ago it rained every day, during some time of the day during my week long hunt...I did unload and clean the rifle every night, mainly because it was getting wet every hunt....

As far as a Sidekick...It is not as good as a Knight......

The NEF Sidekick has a Green Mountain barrel, just like the Knight, and are just as accurate. The Knight has a much better warranty though. ;) I own a NEF Huntsman, the Sidekicks older brother. With the .25 ACP ignition, it is my favorite muzzleloader. The factory trigger on my NEF is the best trigger on any of my rifles. I also have 2 knights, 3 Whites, 1 T/C, so the competition is tough, but I'll take the NEF w/.25 ACP plug, even though it is the least expensive of them all. ;) ;D

The NEF's are great little rifles, they are outstanding little rifles with the .25 ACP breech plug!

i didn't know that , i thought that H&R made their own barrels.  that's a bonus then ;D
the main reason that i'm leaning towards the sidekick is that i'm familiar with the H&R action, my old topper 88 is my primary turkey gun.
so i'm comfortable with the H&R feel....you just have to remember to cock the hammer, not the ejector lever ;D ;D

That is still a great price on the rifle.  I wasn't sure if Knight even made the orange Discs anymore, that's why I mentioned the conversion.  The Sidekick is a good rifle too, no flies on the accuracy there.  I don't have one, have looked at them a couple of times.  Too many people on GB rave about how good it is for it to be a junky gun.  I've had a couple of the centerfire rifles, and they were great for the money.  If they could make a wood/laminate stock with the same crisp lines as the synthetic stocks they would be even better.

that would be nice.  the newest wood stocks look identical to the wood on my '82 topper and aren't any different than the wood on my pardner.

gunstocks inc. has a sweet looking monte carlo rollover on their page, and a nice looking forend.  but then you run into the issue of spending as much on the furniture as the gun ;D
oh well, that doesn't matter.... i've got a boyd's RIA on my mosin, so i'm used to that  :D

decisions, decisions :D

well guys, thanks to everyone for the info.    I ended up ordering the Sidekick this morning, and the best part was i didn't order from MaoMart!  they decided tha they didn't want to order it in because they are getting out the gun business.....so no more special orders.
i went to the local gun shop, not knowing if they could get one because they don't do much with blackpowder.
turns out he could get it for within $10 of wally world's price.
SOLD!!!!!
i should have it tuesday ;D
thanks again
