If it's a big calliber you may shear the screw off. Or bend it.  KN

Forend Issues...

not that i know it all, but i think this would just make for a loose forearm that may or more likely may not help. the key is to eliminate as much barrel to forearm contact as possible so as not to affect the barrel vibrations. try folding black electrical tape into a small square. place it in two different spots near each screw attachment. this will let you know if it will work better with it floated. you can then either keep the tape(works for me on handgun) or use a more permanent bedding block or washer. whatever suits you. GB, had the folded tape idea. i tried it with good results and it works for me. :D

I just picked up some thin rubber washers but have not had a chance to try it yet. As far as using a single screw I have done this with my 308 in the handgun configuration using a rifle forearm without any problems yet.
Just another worthless opinion!!

DakotaShooter2,

I hadn't really ever thought of using rubber washers for standing off (free floating) a forend from the barrel, but I sure would be interested in the results you get from that process.  I'm curious to find out if the vibration damping effect of the rubber would be a good thing or a bad thing.

Please let us know how this turns out.  You may have discovered another good way to free float the forends on T/C's.  I sure hope so!

Be sure to let us know!
