new working gun project
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:25:15 PM »
picked up a new 4 5/8s tainless super blackhawk and it turned out to be a real shooter. Slowly turning into a real working gun. SO far ive freewheeled it myself sanded off the warning but a rough country rear bowen sight on it. IVe got a belt mountain sheriffs sized pin (to give good extraction) comming for it and just bought some ajax fake ivorys for it and sent them and a set of black eagles to 44 man for some scrimshaw. Still need to get a post front sight with a couple gold bars from clements. When its all together ill have my buddy do the action right as ive been shooting it with one leg of the spring dropped and the creap is driving me nuts. Should be a first class budget packing gun when its all done. When the grips get done ill post some pics

Round or fluted cylinder? Are you going to do a bisley conversion on it?

That gun was a first class budget packing gun before you even started fixing it.  Now it will be a first class packer with a lot of cool extras.  Too bad I let you shoot it first.  :-\

Does Clements make a post sight that just drops in on the stainless blackhawks?  They are just pinned in right?  If so I might have to pick one up for my Bisley.

yes he does steve. You have to install it in your grove and then drill out the pin hole. I dont know if you remember shooting either of my accusports but both had them. I think he gets 30 bucks for them and you can add gold bars for 15 bucks each. YOu know me and how much of an oaf i am with gunsmithing. I just had Al put mine on. They come real tall and require you to do some filing to height but you will really notice the differnce in sight pictures with them. Combine them with a bowen rear and there really slick. Make sure if you order one you ask him for a .10 which  is a tad thinner then the normal one he makes.

round cylinder. Not going to go bisley with this one. Trying to make a budjet shooter out of it and even with the heaviest of loads a 44 doesnt recoil enough to warant a bisley frame. Now if it was one  of those ****** squarebacked draggon trigger guards i would have never bought it in the first place. My nuckle has been operated on twice now and it just cant take a beating much anymore.

Lloyd
When you get around to the pictures can you include one from the rear (Perhaps Slightly Above The Sight Picture) that will show your Rough Country Rear Bowen along with the Clements front post?
You may know of an avalible link for viewing that would save you the trouble.
Thanks

Lloyd, I'll get right to work on those grips when they come in.  I'm anxious to see this gun (and shoot it in August!).  I hope we can both clear our schedule this year and make the shoot.  I really missed not seeing everyone last year.  44 Man

Thanks For the Link...
Is there any advantage to ordering either the standard rear Bowen or the tall (.385) blade when the Tall Clements .10 front post will be used?

the standard will work fine with the clements sight as the front blade is tall enough that it will probably needed to be filed down some The tall rear is good if your going to use a stock front blade.
