OK just I got a Kimber stainless TLE/RL II and which ammo do you reccommend i i start off with and how about which one to stay away from. I should have asked before i bought two boxes i just ordered 1 box of CCI blazer 230 FMJ and a box of Federal American Eagle 230FMJ

For overall price and quality I go with the Sellier and Bellot 230 gn ball. Stated velocity is somewhere around 860'/sec and they are accurate. Brass reloads nicely and I haven't had any brass failures for over one dozen reloadings. HTH. Mikey.

I always shoot the russian wolf 45acp ammo in all my 1911a1's. It was $67 for 500rds and now its around $89 for 500rds. I ever had a problem yet with it for plinkin. When i carry my 1911a1 for personal protection I either carry my reloads or the winchester silver tips.

BTW: My reworked norinco 1911a1 shot 3 cloverleafs at 25yds using wolf ammo.

Second the vote for Wolf. The range I shoot at is real picky about shooters picking up brass so this is a nice alternative. Good accuracy and I can focus on all the basics of shooting without worrying about where the brass is going.

We shoot a lot of wolf ammo besides 45acp too we shoot the wolf 223/9mm ammo too. The cost of the wolf was so affordable why reload. I reload for my special carry ammo but for plinking i mainly use wolf. I hope the price comes down on it soon so i can stock up on more of it.

The S&B brass is very good for reloading too ot resizes really easy.

Tannose: I did not recommend the Wolf ammo the others recommend only because I was given a full box (minus 5) at the reange this past fall when a fella with a new Kimber (but a short one) couldn't get his 45 to cycle with that ammo (230 gn ball). The stuff actually shot fine in my Springfield Government Model with 22 lb recoil springs but it just would not cycle his piece. Otherwise the Wolf ammo would have been added to the list. Sorry but HTH. Mikey.

Keep an eye out at gun shows if you have a chance to attend one. I have not been able to find Wolf around central Texas for a while and when I do it has been $10.50 to $11/box of 50. I picked up 250 rounds yesterday at a gun show for $9/box. People are starting to catch on to Wolf for plinking so it has been in short supply.

Go to; www.the-armory.com they seem to have the best deals on ammo I just wait till it goes on sale. I buy all my wolf ammo in 9mm, 45acp and 223 from them. Sportsmans guide is another good place for good prices too. They are always the first ones after a shortage to have the lowest prices so watch for the 7,62x39 ammo there.

Anytime I'm very frugal and i shoot more for less $$$ where i can that way i can buy more ammo!! With ammo prices on the rise we need to shop around more lately too. I been busy but before i would keep a updated weekly list on the best ammo prices and were to get them on sales and clearances too. The point is to stockup when its on sale wether you need it or not then when you go shooting its so affordable that way. I can't justify spending big dollars for ammo that were going to plink with its such a waste of good ammo and $$$.

In Wichita, Dick's Sporting Goods (a chain store) had Remington ammo cheaper than Sportsman's Guide, if bought by the case. I think I paid just under $105 in August. Works just fine in my P-90.

I buy at Gt Distributors in Austin

speerlawman in various loads is currently (as of 2/22) running 10.95 per box of 50

I have shot a ton of it and it's very accurate in my springfield

I also buy Federal 203g +p HST for just under 16 a box of 50!
sweet stuff

they are also the best place for finding used Glocks, Sigs, etc.. for great deals

as a reloader I don't really keep up with ammo prices but I recently picked up a couple cases of the blazer brass for less than nine bucks a box at acadamy its good ammo and its loaded in speer brass I get 17-20 loadings per case not a bad deal

I detest wolf ammo and wont let anyone shoot it at my range (private) Its a pain in the but picking up my brass is the mess of steal cases that are left laying around. I also wont use it in my ar15, theres just something about shooting steal bullets down a steal bore that doesnt make sense to me. I shoot mostly reloads but have had good luck with ww white box and blazer ammo. Its almost as cheap as wolf and you can reload it.

Don't think the bullets are steel, and the cases are made of steel softer than your chamber, it's soft enough to expand like brass, and not let gases blow by.

I'm not saying you have to use it, but it's pretty good stuff. At least the 45 acp is. Pretty accurate, too.

Try using a rolling magnet on your range, like contractors use on job sites to pick up nails, to get the wolf "brass" out of your way.

Many ranges have gotten fed up with the steel and aluminum brass because it is such a nuisance to separate as recyclable metal. They really prefer that brass be used. I know of a few ranges that only permit brass cases.

For indoor ranges it makes great sense to limit the cases to brass because it is an efficient recycling system. The cases fire, drop on the floor, and are collected for recycling.

Aluminum cases must be separated manually. Running a magnet through the collected brass is a nuisance, and not entirely reliable. Hornady, for example, has experimented with many techniques for separating cases, and the only reliable method they have found is "two Asian women and a big table".

I have a Springfield Armory 1911A1 GI that shoots Blazer Brass and Federal 230 gr hardball ammo terrifically. Walmart here in AZ sells the Blazer for about $11/50. The group sizes are respectable (3-5in. at 25 yds) and never a hiccup.... my defense load is Speer 230 gr Gold Dot, which is also accurate and never failed to feed. This gun also shoots CCI shotshells reliably... a most impressive gun and ammo combination for the $.

I know the 223 ball is copper coated steal jacketed bullets. Dont know about the 45 stuff. I have to admitt on the wolf that some of it can shoot. Ive got a buddy who shoots ppc with me and is my biggest competition and all he uses is wolf in his springfield. Now i dont care much for springfield guns and detest wolf ammo but its hard to argue with him as he usually edges me out in competition. His springfield is a stock out of the box target and shoots it into one hole off the bench. One good thing for me is that its about not available right now anyway. I was at two reloading stores last weekend and the only wolf was for the aks. The rest of it was all sold out and the dealers said they couldnt get anymore. So if you like it you best be buying all you can. Me ill just set up the dillon and make my own.
