FR8 Sight Adjustments
« on: February 02, 2007, 10:09:52 AM »
Does anyone have any information on the sight adjustments for a Spanish FR8.  With the sights set at the "V" or open sight position there is one aperature if the sight is rotated to the right, and from the same "V" position, two aperatures if rotated to the left.  This means there are a total of for sighting positions for the rear sight.  (the front sight is eccentric and can be adjusted for windage)

I'm trying to figure out what yardage (or meters) each position is supposed to be.  Also what the bullet weight and muzzle velocity is for the standard CETME round that it is chamberd for.  The .308 or NATO round will chamber and probably fire, but I think the CETME round was a little less powerful.  I'm trying to duplicate the loading with .308 bullets and brass.

Thanks,
Roudy

There's four positions on the rear sight.Three of them are peep style and one is open. The open one is 100 yards, the lowest peep is 200 yard, next higher is 300 yards and the highest one is 400 yards.
The front sight has a screw in post which is eccentric(offset).Screwing it up or down changes the elevation and the offset changes the windage.
There is a locking screw on the front of the front sight which must be loosened before turning it and then tightened to lock it in place.

The CETME 7.62 cartridge is nothing more than the 7.62 NATO loaded with lighter weight bullets and less pressure to facilitate reliable extraction in CETME rifles with unfluted chambers. Once the German engineers figured out that fluting the chambers would give reliable extraction with 7.62 NATO production of the so called "CETME" cartridge ceased. The FR7 and FR8s were produced after that and are intended for 7.62 NATO ammunition. Of course the Spanish allowed in the manual for those rifles that the "CETME" cartridge could be used also. However the rifles were never "designed" for just the use of the "CETME" cartridge but are fully intended to be used with 7.62 NATO ammuntion. The sights on your FR8 are regulated for 7.62 NATO equivelent ammunition commonly referred to as "Ball" ammo.
