small problem

I have a Rock Island armory mil spec .45 It shoots very well but every other clip full I get one or two times that it will not go all the way into battery I can usally reach up with my thumb and push the slide forward and its fine, The gun hasn't been shot alot yet and it dosn't matter what rounds I'm useing. Should I just shoot it alot first or is there something I can do to help?

Are you shooting reloaded ammo in this gun?My Springfield did this on some reloads.After looking at the ones that were sticking they seemed to have a ridge in the case.May not be your problem,but that's what I found was happening to me.Slow

Yes I shoot handloads but it will do it with factory ball ammo to, If I clean it real good it seams to help but dosn't cure it completly, Its never really been dirty enuff to stop a 1911 but I've never owned a new one before.

your chamber may have been cut a tad short or a tad tight. IVe had two springfields that came that way. Never sent them back because both shot so well. I just seated my bullets a tad deaper and put a touch more crimp then normal on them and the ran fine. Another thing you could try is replaceiing your recoil spring if its worn or many try a tad heavier one in it.

Bob - normally that would be badnews but since the pistol is new I recommend laying in a good supply of GI ball ammo and shootin' the snot outta that new gun.  My springfield did the same thing with some reloads until I shot the snot outta it and now she is just fine.  HTH.  Mikey.

Mikey, I think thats all it needs.Sevral hundred round thru it to loosen every thing up, It dos'nt seem to be the chamber I tried loading some short as suggested an it did'nt make any diffrence. I shoots well thou out of the box it hits 4" low and 4"to the right @ 25 yards inside 4"s A little drifting and a little file work should be dead on.

Bob:  before you start filing and drifiting, let the piece break in.  One reason for a lack of accuracy out of the box is that the slide and barrel have to 'wear in' together and seat with each other properly before the piece is free of bugs and the like.  Quite often you may have slight burrs or sharp edges on the bands on the barrel where it mates with the slide, and the same on the slide, so even though she goes into battery and is safe to fire the barrel may not be properly seated against the slide.  When gunsmiths work on 1911s to improve accuracy the make certain the bands on the barrel and the cuts in the slide for those bands (er whatever they are called) match up perfectly - then you know where you have to work on the sights. 

Also, after she is broken in if she still shoots low you may be able to correct that with a shorter barrel link but, let her get broken in first and then fiddle with it.  HTH.  Mikey.

Thanks Mickey I believe I'l just shoot it a bunch. It not ever gonna be used in comps just for shooting and carring, I can be patient.
