I have a great time fooling around with my 8x57s.
I have been shooting the Sierra 175s.
A very good friend and I have had long discussions about 8mms vs. 308. His first choice is his '06.
I guess there really isn't much difference betwen a 165 grain out of a 30-06 and a 175 grain out of the Mauser.
You know, I can remember intense argument in deer camp over whether the 30-30 (.308) or the 32 Special (.321) was best for deer. Of course, the 32 Special had a twist that would handle a heavier bullet, but I don't think at that time in the 1960s, when I first started hunting, anyone in our party cared much about that.
Looking back on those early arguments over the 30-30 vs. the 32 Special and then at our present conversations about the 8mm vs. the .308/'06, we were/are splitting hairs.
Fun, isn't it?
Best wishes,
Harold
