Is a standard contour 223 "do-able" for PD??
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:30:51 PM »
Hey guys . . . I am interested in trying to make the hunt with you guys if it is held this year.  I know that I would have to be very careful about over shooting it but is a standard contour 223 "do-able"??  (I would also plan to bring an Mach 2 and a 10/22.)

The 223 is a prime choice for p-dogs , everything from 22LR all the way up to 25-06 were used at last years shoot . I plan to use a 218 Bee , a 223 BB and a 243 with 55 gr bullets , will also have my 22 mag & LR with me .

Is the standard contour too suceptible to heating to be worthwhile?

Jason

The standard contour barrel of the handi is still bigger that most rifles , the superlites are the only ones that i have herd of having a heating problem . when shooting p-dogs , more than one rifle is almost a must , last year i had 2 cooling while i was shooting the 3rd. and just kept rotating as they heated up .

I went through over 800 rounds in 4 days last year , that was between rim-fires and center-fires , with more CFs than RFs .

:o  WHOAH!!!  Sounds like an amazing trip!

Thanks for the info!  I also like the trick someone mentioned about the towels in the cooler!

yes a standard would be fine, just not as many shots in a string before you put it down to cool
