Need Help with Polaris

Just bought a 2000 Xplorer (400) and need to change the oil (s) in it.  I just ordered a Haynes manual, but it will be some time before it arrives.  Can anyone PM me/ send a pix from the manual on where is the dipstick/fill plug and which plug is the drain plug for both the gearcase and the "counter balance houseing" for this thing?  Don't want to ride it too much till I'm sure it has oil.  Many Thanks.  bg

Sorry to say I don't know what you need, but I do know Polaris's generaly need help.

Seriously, you might try calling a local dealer and talk to the service department, they should be able to help you. Another place you might check is www.atvnation.com, they have a polaris forum there and someone should be able to help out.

Isn' the 2000 Xplorer a 2 stroke?

My Haynes manual only goes to '95 but the Xplorer was a 2 stroke and I am pretty sure it stayed thay way until they quit making it. The manual says change the oil in the counter balance every 100 hours. Be sure and check it regularly as it only holds 2 ounces. The dipstick is under the carburator. You will have to remove the airbox to see it. Throw the factory airbox away and replace it with a Unifilter with a Filterskin on it re-jet it and it will fly. I used to ride a 400 Sport that was the same engine and ran Polaris Gold oil because it doesn' smoke.
