Any opimioms out there on the Uncle Mike's Kydex belt holster for a 5906 S&W? Looking for a decent way to carry this.

I have one of the Uncle Mikes Kydex paddles for my Glock 22.  I like it ok, I am not a big fan of paddle holsters but occasionally they come in handy.  I think the belt loop version of this holster would be fine.  It is well made and inexpensive, the Glock Model fits the gun well and of course the tension adjustment provides decent security from the pistol working its way out of the holster.  It is thicker than some of the upper end kydex holsters and I think it is actually some polymer other than kydex but it works.  The only concern I would have is that it is a much bulker holster than a lot of the other designs and could cause some concealment problems as far as printing goes if you are lookng at it for concealment purposes.  In retrospect, if I were looking for a belt type holster, I would probably go with one of the leather pancake style holsters for concealment which is what I carry most of the time, it holds the pistol closer to the body and doesn't print as bad. As I said, I only bought it because it was a cheap but functional paddle holster and I wasn't particularly worried about concealment just convienance.  I generally only use it if I am sent to the store after I am in for the night or some other quick unexpected errand and while I throw a jacket on to cover the pistol, if you look hard you can tell there is something there.  With all that said if you are just looking for a holster for the range, or IDPA competition or such the holster would be fine.

LEO - Thank you for the informative reply. I saw them on a clearance for next to nothing but still don't want to buy things I would never use. After reading your post I think I may try it. Thanks again, Tom

I use a Kydex holster for my 1911.  I had tried several types of leather holsters and was reluctant to try anything ugly and made of plastic.  But now I love that Kydex holster and have no desire to go back to leather.  It is a tool, a very efficent tool.

I like nice leather as much as anyone, and do wear them with certain firearms.  However, Kydex is tough, impervious to sweat and oil, nad retatins it's shape.  They are cheaper than good leather, and are also perfectly formed to the shape or your firearm.  If it fits your gun, wallet and needs, Kydex may be a good choice. I wear them exclusively with my Glocks.

I use a UM Kydex belt holster for my M-37 Smith and like it very much.  I also have a Fobus Roto for the same gun.
