Got a question for ya'll
« on: February 05, 2007, 11:09:58 AM »
I am in the market for a new handgun.I am kinda undecided on what to get.It will be used for when I go fishing and just knocking around in the woods where I might run across a rodent such as a snake or possum or the likes.I have been thinking about a 17HMR in a good ole six shooter but I was wondering what ya'll might think or have used. Thanks

I agree on the 22. In my opinion a 17HMR just can't be used to its full potential in a pistol unless you scope it. I don't think I could hit any thing any better with a 17 than I could with a 22 using a pistol. Unless it were scoped. But thats just me.   KN

Possum?  Why in the name of heaven would you want to shoot a possum?  Do you eat'm?  Are they dangerous?  Is there anything to be gained from killing a possum?  Curios minds want to know!! :D

I agree with the Ruger single six also, great gun for doing what you're talking about. And it comes with a .22 caliber and .22 magnum caliber cylinder, the best of both worlds. It makes a great woodswalking and general purpose pistol.

Well I guess I should have listen to my brother when he told me that all I would need is a Ruger single six 22LR.About the possoms the man oversees our hunting club lives next to it and they have been getting in his quail and chickens real bad lately.Alco got a bad problem with armadillos.

That's what I have and I think would be a great idea.

I will stick with the 22lr theme but vote for a S&W 617 if the higher cost over the single six is not an issue for you.
