Why won't new muzzleloader barrels fit old contenders?
« on: February 05, 2007, 04:14:17 PM »
Does anyone have any idea why T/C would make the muzzleloader barrels not fit the old style contender?
Gonic used to make one , Bullberry still does,(although quite pricy)  so, it should work.  any ideas?

Call TC and ask them. I did, bought the G2 barrel and cut off the post. Shoots great.

Tadsjstout - What post is it that you cut off to make it work? Thanks, Tom

I've recommended cutting off the post in other forums and had my "hillary" handed to me. I suspect that T/C did that to be able to sell more G2 frames. There is no problem though since the muzzleloader's breach doesn't stress the frame.

correct, but since there are more internals in the older Contender frames.....springs, moving parts, etc., the potential gunk caused by blowback from the 209 primer can really gunk the works up in a hurry.
Yhe inside of the G2 is much easier to break down and clean as opposed to the old style 'tenders.
JMHO.

There is a post on the underside of the barrel that the G2 frame has a posthole for that the original frame doesnt have. Removing it allows the barrel to close on the frame. I called TC about the barrel and they claimed there was not a saftey issue but said that the older frames had more parts and would be suseptable to getting dirtier from the blowback. I havent seen a problem with mine being dirty and clean up after every session. TC said cutting off the post voided the warranty on the barrell. They also said they had not had a warranty on the barrells either. Mine shoots great.
