Cost of Reloading Going Up.....

According to information I just received, the cost of reloading is about to take a major hike in price.  Copper, brass and lead are all going up in price, this will eventually filter down to the reloader.  It has even got to the point that theives are stealing the copper from homeowners air conditioners, often while they are in the house.  Copper hit seventy cents a pound in this area last week, brass is very close to the same price, and lead is on the rise too.  According to one source, the reason for this increase is the current high demand for military ammo.

It may be a wise idea to stock up on reloading components to keep the cost down in the future.

Price increases for components have already hit ... the latest in this area to increase are the powders as they went up 15% in the last month.

Rockbilly, not sure where you live, but here in Ohio, A good friend of mine got over $2.00 a lb. last Oct. for a 5gal. bucket of brass. Copper, lead, steel, it's all gone up. I use a plate steel known as AR400 for my targets. 2-3 years ago I paid .75-.80 cents a lb. for a sheet, 4'x8'- so a sheet would cost me $400-$450. Last fall I paid $1.35lb. so the same sheet was close to $700. 2 main reasons, first, China is buying everything they can get their hands on as far as steel, lead and the like are concerned. Second, speculators on the stock market push it up also. I don't think the price is going to drop much, even if the stock market boys cool their heels. At the gun show in Lima last weekend, I had a trap shooter tell me that a price of shot was at $28 a bag. We havn't seen much of an increase as far a loading components in the last few years. The primer scare of the '90's was do to Clinton being in office, and the reloading customers pushed the demand for that way up. This time, I don't think price's will come down. Price of gas right now has jumped to $2.20 a gallon, and just last week I paid around $1.90. Unfortunatly, it's something we might have to live with. Like gypsyman says,I don't think prices will go down again either.I've stocked up on brass,bullets,primers and have a supply of powder so should be ok for a few years.Did same thing in the 90s and am now shooting powder that cost $11 lb,just saw prices in gunshop today of $23.99lb.And I thought $11 a lb was high back then!

I have never seen a Government Program that was instituted to put itself out of business...once established they thrive, consuming more and more of the general revenue, while the tax payers bear the burden.

Also consider gasoline and diesel prices.  They go up fast and come down slow, if at all.  Diesel is a by-product of making gasoline and SHOULD be less expensive.  Diesel (@ $2.69/gallon) is artificially higher per gallon than gas.  Some of that is road tax, which differ state to state.  However, someone out there is getting fat off of the diesel consumers in America.

When the stock market becomes unstable, interest rates fall and investors rush to land and housing purchasing.  Right now land and housing are artifically over priced, interest rates are on the rise, and there are no investors, all having run back to the market at this time.

It costs money to live in America.  No doubt about that.  Thank God I live here and not in Russia or China or Bolivia, or Africa, or the Middle East...

Increasing prices are a fact of life in America.  Heaven help the fixed income families.
