Restated: favorite 41mag powder/bullet combo

After reading a post on the other forum reguarding giving out load data to newbies.  I have restated my request to favorite bullets and powders for my future Blackhawk 41mag revolver.  I plan on working up some loads once I get it just wanted to get a jump start into my loading research.

I have settled on 2 powders for handgun. I load Win. 296, H-110 is the same but I can get the 296 cheaper, and Bullseye. I load the 296 in all my hot loads and the Bullseye in my plinking loads. I started loading handgun ammo in 1969 and have tried about everything but these 2 seem to do everything I need. I don`t load for the .41 mag, but for about everything else for .38 sp to the .500 S&W. I do know thoughthat most of the people hunting deer with the .41 are useing a 210 gr. bullet.

 I also use one of two powders for handgun. H. Universal for 40 S&W & light/target 38,357,44 spcl & 44 mag loads. I use Win 296 for full power mag loads in 357 & 44. The 41 would be about the same if I was loading it.

I'd have to say the Sierra 170gr. JHC and a good dose of H-110 or Alliant 2400.
I've killed deer with this bullet and no telling how many hundreds of these bullets I've shot.
If you want a heavier bullet go with the Hornady 210gr. XTP or the Speer 210gr. Gold Dot.
Both are very accurate.

Got to go with Dennis on this one  , the 170s from Sierra are hard to beat , as far as powder i only use H110 for the 41 . The Win.296 says to use only Mag primers were the H110 can use standard primers .

I carry my Redhawk in the woods on about a weekly basis. I shoot feral hogs, and the occaisional coyote with it. I tried them all and most of the bullets are great, but the one(s) I settled on are the Remington. I can get them in bulk for just over what a couple of boxes of most others cost, they shoot extremely well from my Ruger, and they have droipped everything I have hit well on the spot. Some of the hogs might go a bit, but I haven't lost any yet due to the bullets.

Loads use the 210gr SP and the 200gr JHP with the latter getting most of the action. Powders are H-110, and W-296, lit off by the Win-WLP primer. Trim length is essential to proper crimps so I generally trim the cases about every three loads. Most times they are just squared up, with no major cut being taken. The loads aren't maxed out and will group under 2" at 50 yds easily if I do my part. I have used Ruger target sights on it for so long that I have a real hard time shooting with the other factory sights. Just makes hitting what and where I am aiming at so much easier. I have taken hogs out to 75yds with these loads and it definately hits with a punch.

The lighter bullets are good but I got away from shooting them when we started the hog patrols. I took a bunch of cottontails years ago with my blackhawk using them and with head shots and lighter loads they were great. There are several powders which will work better than the 110 or 296 with the lighter bullets and not give you the muzzle flash. With the heavier bullets this isn't near as big of a problem.

the 170 is a very good bullet -800x will shoot it fast with little blast -- a little dirty  though-- I like 296\H110 and AA#9
The gold dot shoots great-- as does various cast bullets --the 230 keith can do very well-- then the 250/255 wfngc also do well
for just two powers if want to cut back on blast 800x and AA#9 would work -- well 800X can be loaded down to light plinking loads--but many other powders can too have fun
