Wifes New Muzzleloader

Well I have been throwing around the idea of having my wife go smokeless, cuz I got sick of cleaning her smoke belcher.  Until recently, I thought that meant big bucks, as chopping a savage (that thing is NOT made for a small shooter) to fit her would get costly, and NULA custom makes them, but that is $1300!!!

For only $350 they will convert your NEF/H&R sinlge shot into a smokeless ML.  YIPEEEE!!!!!!!!!  No more cleaning my wifes gun after every hunting trip!  Well almost every trip, she is a deer killin machine.

Plan on sending the gun in during March.  Can't wait to get it back!

I bought one last year, went back without firing, for several reasons. Just make sure that if you don't like it, you can get your money back. I did!

I emailed them not long ago just to see what it would cost to change the Encore over to smokeless.  I thought they would modify the barrel, but the email stated they made a new barrel for the Encore that was over $500 (forget exact price). I could buy a Savage for that price....

We can now use smokeless muzzleloaders in VA., but I'm still not that interested.

Yea they make new barrels same with my H&R  I am getting done.

I talked to a guy that got his encore done.  $565 I think.  I mean its cheaper to buy an NEF/H&R for 75 bucks and get the $350 barrel slapped on it. 

Can't say I blame you, I sure wouldn't take a $600 encore and spent another $500 to convert it!!!  But some people have.

It would be easier to post what I did like about it. The bore of the Douglas barrel was excellent. THE END!

I still think smokeless powder and muzzleloader's don't mix.   JMHO.

Well I LOVE my savage.  Unfortunately they are too dang big for a young shooter/small lady to tote around. 

Granted going smokeless isn't for everyone, I understand that, but thier certainly is a crowd out there that wants them and enjoys them.

You maybe the first savage owner to admit that smokeless isn't everyones choice.   I personally do not like them and do not trust them.  That being said if you have one and use it for hunting and it is legal fine.  Just don't take offense if you setup beside me at the range and I move down a couple tables.

Here is another one to look at.... It is called a swing lock... after you look at the regular rifles make sure you look at the Traditional variety.... it would probably get you kicked out of a traditional club...

LOL.  Not sure what your paranoia is over savage's safety.  I assume this means you would also move away from the guy firing a centerfire savage for fear of its instaneous explosive capabilities.

OR is it that fact that you would be humilated simply sitting next to one of those disgraceful, non-smoke belching, pieces of junk.    I suspect this really has more to do with it, but I could be wrong.

Those rifles are nice, but like the NULA's, out of my reasonable price range.

Wow Busta, glad you like the conversion enough to give such a glowing endorsement.      I'm not too sure about the smokeless and muzzleloader's either.  I guess if that's your cup of tea, enjoy it.  As for myself, muzzleloading's all about the smoke.     Love it, got to have it, couldn't imagine it not being there.

We are men we do not read directions.  I freely admit to spending to much free time hanging out at gunshops.  One of the local shops strongly endurces the savage.  When you repedly hear guys have to told that they needed to weigh not measure smokeless powder to shoot safley you would move too.  Sorry the idea of a guy pooring SP into a BP measure set for 100 to 150 grns scares the living &%#&^%$ out of me

I am a little confused.  Are you saying you are scared because they measure smokeless by volume and not weight, or vice versa?

I totally understand that and would say that is exactly why smokeless is not for everyone.
