Just think about how much you'll SAVE by not having to buy all those bullets!  That should take a little sting out of it.

Lloyd, I'm guessing you mix that lino with wheelweights?  If you switch to shooting .25 acp exclusively, your supply will last much longer!  Those 400+ grain slugs do eat up the alloy.  I cast up some 32-20 bullets the other day, and it's amazing how much longer a pot of alloy lasts!  Good shooting.

I know what you mean. Cast with a couple 4 cavity .512 or .476 molds and a 20lb pot goes empty real fast.

Lloyd, unfortunately I don't have any 4 cavity molds in the 475 and 50 cals.  Even the 2 cavity ones I have eat up the alloy in a hurry, and I know I don't shoot as much as you.  Are you using LBT's molds for your 4 cavities?.  I have a few of  Verals 2 cavity molds, and consider them the best.

New to this forum but I am in the business of recycling lead acid auto and commercial batteries.  People are constantly dropping off wheel weights, soft lead, and other lead items for me to recycle.  I recently gave over 2,000 lbs of wheel weights to a guy just to get rid of it.  Seems the folks that buy my scrap batteries don't want wheel weights, linotype, etc.  I have to gather a 42,000 lb straight truck of wheel weights etc. before I can ship (I cannot ship mixed loads.)

Same goes for steel cased batteries.

I am located in mid Missouri.  If you are willing to pick up in the Columbia MO neighborhood, I may be able to help you.

Man, thats a long drive from Vt. in a 53 Dodge, if I left now I might be able to pick up a load of wheelweights by late spring!  I have been trying to locate a recycler within a few hours that will sell.  The one I have found is in Mass.  and I guess state law won't allow them to resell any reclaimed lead.  If anyone has any sources for any reasonable quantities of wheelweights in the northeast I would really appreciated  hearing from you.  I've got maybe 1,500 lbs left, and that won't last forever.  Thanks.

I have a few hundred pounds of pure lead and was looking for some lineotype to mix it with in the Milwaukee area.  Found some last week, only $3.50 a pound.  Quess I keep looking.

I know this is probably 'old news' on this topic but when I used to look for linotype I could usually find it free for the taking at print shops and the like that still use the stuff and I guess they (those shops) are still around.  They use it for print and when the individual 'letters and numbers' start wearing out and giving fuzzy print, the shops get rid of them and order new.  HTH.  Mikey.

Now Mikey I sure hate to argue with you (ha as if I hated to argue with anyone)  ;D But when linotype was in use all they did was toss the letters back into the pot and remelt them and cast up new slugs with whatever was wanted. That's what the "linotype machine" did it melted the lead, cast it into whatever letters were typed into a keyboard just as typed in. I've seen them in operation and my big melting pot is the pot from such a machine.

Now it might be that the larger type which was called either foundry type or monotype was done as you say as the linotype machines were not made for renewing them. But the composition of both foundry type and monotype is quite different than linotype with a far higher antimony content.

LLoyd , make a few bullets and check the BHN . I got some new and old linotype and found some of the ingots were only about 18 BHN instead of the 21 that lino is supposed to be. A couple ounces of tin brought it back up to where it should be.
