First Encore...ACP Conversion??
« on: February 08, 2007, 04:09:23 PM »
Just got my first Encore.  Wondering who has tried the ACP breech plug conversion.

Is it cleaner as they say?  What say you?

Thanks...LLL

I would have to say, it works as advertised. I have used them on 3 different Encores and I am getting ready to use it on my new Pro-hunter Encore.

I used mine for a couple of years.  I found the system cleaner, and actually improved the accuracy of my Encore.  When Illinois changed their regulations to allow smokeless, I bought a Savage ML-II and used it with success this year.   However I would recommend the 25 acp priming method though.  I have not tried the new 209 made-for-muzzleloader primers.  The acp conversion worked so well, I saw no need to.

I tried the 25 ACP system and later found that the 777 209 primers worked much better for me.

Waste of money, in my opinion.  I also wasted a lot of time dinking with it, trying to get accurate loads.

I finally decided to keep it simple and returned my gun to its original configuration and concentrated on accuracy.

I'm going to dig out the plug and brass and sell it to someone who wants to try it but don't want to pay full price.

Seemed to be dirtier to me.  I think it is a solution to a problem that does not exist.

I also bought some of their super-duper bulliets.  Pure hype, as far as I am concerned. Power Belts are more accurate, cleaner, and quicker.

Well it worked for a lot of use, so that's all that matters. If it did not work for you, that does not necessarily mean it is bad or not good. You just proved it was not for you. So in my opinion it was not as waste of time or money. JMHO

I was very careful to say "in my opinion" and "as far as I am concerned"!  Of course your milage may vary.  Don't get offended if your opinion is different.
Redhawk1, you don't work for those guys, do you?  http://www.prbullet.com/index.htm

I have a used 50 cal breech plug for the 25 acp (fits Thompson Center Encore) , 20 rounds of clean brass, a small bag os used brass, and 21 each of the 50 cal, 390 grain Ultimate HP conicals
BTW, the breech plugs are $59.95 new.

I will sell and ship the whole collection to the first, "I'll take it"  and receipt of a Postal Money Order for $30.

Or I will accept 2 new Encore breech plugs for 209X50 (for you guys that are removing them). I pay my shipping, you pay yours.

slefler at gci.net  replace the "at" with "@".

This will help me out and help out someone who wants to try this concept without spending the full amount.

bustedknee, if you took the time to really read my post, I was just stating that it may not of worked for you, but a lot of us have had great success with it.
No I do not work for Precision Rifle. And yes I take offence to that!
I don't care if you don't agree with me, because we have different opinions. I was just stating fact, not busting your chops.

The thing that got my attention was the fouling issue.  For those who use the ACP did you go to that becasue of the fouling or accuracy?  Have you found the fouling to be less than with the 209?

Thanks for the thoughts.

I had a little fouling only, so fouling (crud ring) was not a major issue.  I went for the accuracy and ease of handling the 25 ACP case over the 209 primers.
