.22-250 Handi
« on: February 08, 2007, 04:45:59 PM »
I have been reading alot of the threads here in the H&R and NEF rifle category but I have yet to find a thread about the .22-250. I have just purchased one and unfortunately have not had the time to take it out and shoot it. :'( So I was wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect from my new purchase.

I got a 250 for CHRISTmas this year , first time i took it out i was getting under 1" at 100 , just make sure you clean it WELL , sometimes the factory leaves quite a bit of gunk in them , can't give you any idea as far as factory ammo , i have only shot handloads in mine .

And welcome to GBO and the wild world of Handi's .

Yup, you'll want to clean it good and keep it clean. Start with some 55gr remington core-loks. I found that mine didn't like the lighter bullets such as 45gr winchester white box. Good luck to you!

Evening  Navy,
I think you'll have a lot of fun with your 22-250. can't emphasize the "cleaning" enough. I'm very happy with mine. I don't shoot factory loads-So I can't help ya there. So far 55gr Sp with 4064 powder seems to shoot the best. All, I can say is that you'll love the guys on here. I've never seen another site where everyone is as helpful as the guys are on GB. I haven't shot mine out past 100yds yet, so I can't even tell you what to expect as far as bullet drop.
                                                                                                                              Enjoy,      Marc

I have never had a Handi before, but I have been looking at buying one in 22-250. Lots of info here. Thanks to all.

Bought one in 22/250 and all I've shot in it so far is the Renington 50 grain (40 to a box) that I bought at Sportsman's Warehouse and it shoots those good. Will routinely shoot less than 1" for 3 of 5 shots . I usually take care of the other two going over 1" ! Mine is very sensitive to placement of the foreend on the sand bag , like most handi's are. Mine groups best when I place the take down screw on the foreend on the bag , not in front or behind or POI will shift an inch or so. I plan to do some of the techniques outlined in FAQ for foreend correction. I will try float first , easiest to do and glass baed lug and back to the frame if that doesn't fix it.
