If it Ain't what I Got..It ain't no good !!!
« on: February 09, 2007, 09:47:16 AM »
Where does this mentality come from ? It must linger over from when we are children,
"Mine is better than yours", followed by a stuck out tongue ! I have read thread after thread
about this gun is no good or that gun is better than every thing.  A post below actually got very heated
about "Dangerous Muzzleloaders," and ended with two folks being very irritated at each other.
( I thought S.Sumner was the only one here who could make folks that mad....Just Poking a little fun S.  ;) )   Why do we do this? We all have our favorites, some more expensive than others but serve the purpose equally well. Personally I can't afford a $400-$500.00 muzzleloader (or centerfire for that matter) so I have to make do with what I can afford. Some guns such as CVA have filled a very important Niche with their less expensive
firearms. I could/would not have an In-line if it wasn't for them. But there again, I am smart enough to know that it is a Budget priced firearm too and am not gonna stuff it to the gills with powder either  ;D

I frankly don't care what anyone chooses to use, but if asked my opinion on a certain muzzleloader, rifle or handgun or what kind of powder should be used, I will state my opinion. Sure other may not agree with my opinion and I may not agree with theirs, but it all comes down to what you can afford and what you personally choose to use.

I have shot a lot and I mean a lot of different muzzleloader, rifles and handguns and I know what works best for me and what I prefer. I will never knock a guy because he may not be fortunate enough to afford a expensive gun to hunt with, but I would caution him if he was going to make a bad decision on a muzzleloader deemed unsafe.

In my opinion , I shoot the best muzzleloader out there, why? Because I have tried  a lot of them and the one I have is what meets all my wants. Sure you may not like my choice, but ultimately it is myself that I have to please.

Your last statement sums it up for me and I think you use a lot of common sense.  ;)

Kinda like centerfires....I have a Ruger.243 M-77...Had it reworked a bit....Shilen barrel, trigger adjusted to 2 1/2 pounds, pillar bedded, action glass bedded....Dang if my buddy's .243 Remington ADL doesn't outshoot mine with just about any ammo I can find...Mine loves CoreLokts and a couple of more brands but his likes everything....

I also have a Knight Disc...took me several sessions to find the pet load...After I found mine he had me work with his....Dang if his cheap American Knight didn't do better....

He has a cheap Marlin .22 semi with a Bushnell...I have a Remington 541-T, with a Leupold Compact...I have him on that one.... ;D...But he's not too far behind...Go figure...

I would rather buy a used, more trusted, better-name muzzleloader for $250 - than a new, more questionable, entry-level muzzleloader for $250. Many gun shops around here will let the used muzzleloader purchaser shoot a few rounds to see if the gun is worth the price - or if not happy,  take the gun back for another used gun purchase.

I think it is a bit like fishing in a way. The lure is designed to catch the fishermans eye not the fish. I doubt any deer care rather they were shot with an CVA, KNIGHT or T/C.

Trench, you are so right!

Opinons on-line give full value for what it costs.

One man loves something for his own reasons, another fellow loves something else for different reasons.  If each simply says what they love and hopefully, say why, the issue should rest there.  But many seem to be insulted that others love something different.  Then they start trashing each others choice in an attempt to win on-line credibility so it  degenerates into silly personal attacks!  That is, as you eloquently describe, childish behavior.
Common sense is an uncommon virtue

The issue blows up when someone's opinion (which everyone has) causes them to goad people who don't agree, or say they had problems with that particular gun and don't like it.

We all have opinions, but with something as subjective as gun preference it's ridiculous to expect everyone to agree with you.

I've seen this all before....i'm an archer ;D
you want to see exactly what i'm talking about, go to an archery forum and make a disparaging post about mathews, bowtech, etc
in all reality, it doesn't make a darn to me what anyone shoots.....just be safe doing it.
and i'm not about to bite on the trad vs modern stuff, i think each has it's merits ;)

I know we are a little off subject but can't resist. I have a Mauser action Shilen barrel, jeweled bolt, custom stock, bedded rifle in 30-06 with the best scope. I also have a "junk" military mauser in 7mm that I got cheap as the stock was cracked and someone thought they sportarized it with a glued on sight. I found a cheap synthetic stock and shot a few rounds. The barrel is so shot out that the neck of the cases expand so much that they are hard to reload. Guess which one outshoots the other every time? You guessed it the old military one; basically minute of angle at 100 yards with a cheap Tasco scope. Guess which one I carry hunting most of the time?

Hey TrenchMud...
ME OFFEND SOMEONE !!!! Say it ain't so !!!
In all honesty, I must admit it, I can be a bit of an A$$ at times.
But at least I "can" admit it, As far as I know, My comments about firearms normally
don't do it though. It is when I stray to other subjects that I turn into sandpaper
and rub folks the wrong way. The few times it has happened in the last 4 or five years
I have been posting here, I have not been able to bring myself to appologize for.
I still think I was Right... :P (possibly mistaken, but never wrong)

I do agree with your initial post in this thread... We can all be a little childish at times,
Myself included....
"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things." I Cor. 13:11

Sometimes the child still comes through !

Also one thing , get some tougher skin, you are going to hear a lot of things you may not agree with. Like S Summer, I can be an A$$ also. But I will not knock you personally about your choice, but in the same token, if you as a question you are not prepared to hear the answer to, don't ask.  If someone asks my opinion on a certain gun and through my actual experience I find it to be junk, I will tell you it is junk.  But I will NEVER knock the person for there choice.

If you can't play with the big dogs go play with the puppies is what I say.  ;D ;)
