Price Check: Two used Ruger Blackhawks
« on: February 10, 2007, 08:59:47 AM »
A local store has two used Blackhawks on sale for $259 each. The first is a 6 1/2" blued .32 H&R mag, light wear and little play in the cylinder. It's a sexy little gun. The second is a blued .357 magnum, 6 1/2" in like condition. They have little visible wear and perfect bores & crowns.

The 357 would be a good mate for my Marlin 1894C. Is $259 each a good price? What should I watch out for in a used Balckhawk? It's been 20 years since I've bought a pistol so any advice is appreciated.

Those are good prices, especially on the .32 mag!  Grab 'em both!  No need for another .357 but I'd like that .32 myself.

Well, I bought the 357 but the law says I can only buy one handgun every thirty days. (Crummy-fornia gun law.)  That 32 H&R Mag Blackhawk is in fine shape but, I went with the 357 because I have the Marlin 1894C.

10 days and counting....

Maybe the dealer will let you put some down to hold it?  I gotta agree that law stinks!

Good idea.  After all the "hold" wouldn't constitute a purchase.  If not...maybe sneak that dealer's contact info this way.  ;)

Well, I went back to the dealer. Because of the 'only 1 every 30 days' handgun law in California, I asked if I could put it on layaway. He said he could not do that or take payment without doing all the legal paperwork, like the DROS.  There's no way around it. So, if it's still there next month (yeah, right!) I may pick it up as an investment.

I did err on the price of the 32. It is $269, not $259. Still a sweet price. BTW, my wife approved of the 357 Blackhawk purchase. Happy Valentine's Day to me!  8)

Have your wife buy it!!!

That gave me a chuckle.  :D  I can see her taking the handgun handling test in the store. Ha! She lets me and our sons have guns but she's not "into" them.

Hey, Redhawk1. Here in the PRC, it gets real tricky. The good new is that the 32 H&R Magnum Blackhawk is still there and I can buy it in 20 more days. The REALLY good news is that the 357 came home today!  ;D

At that price, I'm betting the .32 is already sold.  ;)  No,  I didn't buy it.  Wish I did.
