Mike

I would slug the bore to make sure it is not to tight , but i see no reason that you can't shoot them in the 357 barrel , also Hodgdon lists loads up to 180 gr. for the 357 mag on their web site .

Is the barrel a 357 mag or a 357 Max ? the longer bullets may not work in the mag chamber with mag cases . how ever they may work in a Max chamber with mag cases .

It depends on how much throat you have to work with .

The 225's are too heavy to stabilize in that gun, but the lighter weights will work pretty good. I've loaded a lot of 35 Remington type bullets in 357's with a little success. Be careful working up because the longer bearing surfaces tend to run pressures up some. Find your maximum seating depth, and load with Lil' Gun, H-110, or 296 using magnum primers.

You're not limited to a heavy crimp being that it's a single shot, but you'll still want to force just a slight crimp for better more consistant accuracy.

I'd only recommend using that type of bullet for plinking because it'll give you zero expansion at 357 velocities.

I've not loaded tons of those bullets in 357's, but I have tinkered with them enough to offer the advice I listed above.

Nope.  Sorry bud.  Looks like you're gonna have to get yourself a new gun to shoot those bullets.  I know you hate like heck to get news like this, but I gotta be straight with ya.

.358 Win or .35 Whelen will do nicely.

I think NEF offers the .35 Whelen bbl.

I once had a Winchester '94 trapper in .357 and loaded the 180 grain Speer flatpoint. I chose the Winchester over the Marlin expressly because it can handle a longer cartridge length. They worked fine from the magazine and that Speer bullet was the most accurate load in that rifle. I can't say how they would work on game but I doubt they would expand very well at .357 speeds. As to 200 grains, I don't know where you'd find load data for them in the .357 and just forget anything even heavier.
The story of David & Goliath only demonstrates the superiority of ballistic projectiles over hand weapons, poor old Goliath never had a chance.
