Another stupid question.

Would the 500 SW be a 50 caliber bullet? what would the efective range be on deer? Also would you hunt black bear with this round?

There are not many stupid questions out there Dale and this is not one of them. I believe the .500 S&W is a true .50 caliber with bullets miking around .501 to .502. I don't have one and don't need one since I have a 45/70, but yes I think it could be an effective Black Bear round if you had to use it....<><.... :)

Thanks a bullet that size must pack a heck of a punch.

Yes, it does, on both ends, just like a comparably loaded 45-70!! :o

I also wonder what the recoil would be like as compared to a 300 Win mag or a 12 gage shotgun.

If ya think that's bad, a 15½lb  577 T-Rex shooting a 750gr bullet has 168.5lbs recoil, and if that's not enough abuse for ya, an 18¼lb 700 Nitro Express shooting a 1000gr bullet has 235lbs recoil!!

I would think that a gun like that would have to be mounted to something or it would dislocate your shoulder.

One day last year at the pistol range, I fired a .500 S&W revolver (4" barrel w/brake) one time. My hand stung for a couple of days afterward. There comes a point where it stops being fun . . .
