handled a sbh hunter for the first time today...
« on: May 07, 2003, 01:17:41 PM »
and it felt real nice.  it was used and had a 500 price tag.   it was the first one i had seen live and in color.  been looking for one a long time(just to eyeball) and managed to walk away from it.   called my neighborhood gun store and he quoted me $ 470 n.i.b.   should be on the way by now.    my restraint only goes so far, i guess.

and today i brought that sucker home.   if the weather is nice tommorrow(supposed to rain, and it is now) i will get to shoot it.   this is the handgun i wanted from the get go.  at the time i decided this,  i discovered a short time later that they were not in production anymore.    no sooner had i bought my r.b.,  they announce  they are going to start making them again.  rats!   problem is now solved.

i dont thnk i have ever seen a post with this many replies by only one person before!   anyhow,   here is what i found out about the sbh hunter today.   i finally got to shoot mine.  took my 10 inch barrel sbh along for side by side comparison.   first thought after firing round 1 :   wow!  that sucker swings around quick!   shot two more and thought the same thing.  then i went to check the target at 25 yards.   i have only shot one group as tight with a pistol before.   i proceded to shoot two  3 shot groups that were about as good as i could ever hope to be.   wow!   very accurate with iron sights.   tommorrow a nikon 2x pistol scope goes on it.
one last comment: i almost cant believe the difference in recoil between the 7 1/2 inch verses the 10 1/2 inch.   i never would have thought that 3 inches of barrel would make such a difference.    seeing is believeing.

You should notice a good bit of difference with the flip when you mount the scope due to it being located out over the end of the cylinder and down the barrel.  Is this a 44?  My 44 Hunter would should great groups, I had a 2x7 Burris on it at the time.  Someone borrowed it but I've got a new one now that just came in chambered in 41 Mag that I'm looking forward to shooting.  I haven't picked it up from the store yet though.  When my 44 was stolen, I found a great deal on a 10.5" SBH.  It has a 2x Leupold mounted on it with Leupold mounts and it shoots awesome.  You can tell a difference in the muzzleflip though.  Have fun with the new Hunter. yeah, i put the new scope on today;  that and the rings make a very noticable difference in forward weight.   got to try that now.    i have never shot a 41 and swore that if a hunter ever was made in it i would have to have it.   well, i am trying to downsize the number of chamberings i have so as less money to spend on reloading supplies.  and it would be against that mindset to add a 41 to the collection.   but i gotta tell you, i am awful curious about how that 41 would shoot.  keep me posted, eh?   sorry to hear about someone stealing your other gun :x some people, eh?

I have my name in for one in .45LC that I was told is expected to be in in a few months.  After that, I'll likely add another in .41. :-) Wonder if that means I have to get the SBH in .44 as well as the Bisley Hunter then too...
