Auto Scout Rifle
« on: February 12, 2007, 02:29:29 PM »
Anyone ever see a automatic scout rifle.  I have a Marlin 444 with a scout scope setup and I love it.  I have a Browning 308 BAR that I think would make a great scout setup.  Just not sure if I can get a mounting system for the scope.  Any ideas.

One of the least expensive scout setups would be to buy an SKS and use a scout type rail available.  Those who have love the results.  There has been some development of a rear receiver peep site for the SKS, so that might complete the scout profile.

I've also considered a scout type setup on my G3, but that's not a traditional scout platform and is far over a typical scout weight.

If you already like a scout setup you like on another rifle and have a BAR that serves you well, a custom scout scope mount may be worth your while.

brdavis,
Finding a worthy SKS can be a challenge. I have seen them made up in the scout configuration. The rifle lends itself well to this insofar as its handling qualities and balance with the scope installed are concerned. The installation I saw involved B Square or Choate add ons and did impact the cleaning process, as such required removal of the scope. One of the scout installs also impacted the issued rear sight. As BattleRifleG3 suggested, there was an after market peep.

brdavis,

which scope do you use on your .444? I am looking to set up my .450 the same way. I love the handling of this set up. Thanks.

The scout mounts that I'm aware of include a rear site, I think it's a peep but I'm not sure.

K.K.

I used the Leupold Scout Scope.  I am a BIG Leupold fan.  I don't use any kind of ghost ring setup and I don't want one for the BAR either.
