Coverups

Not exactly a conspiracy theory, but a little something to jump start the group.

What are people's thoughts on how much information is too much information?
To be more specific... why do so many people think that the government should reveal secrets to the public, such as advanced aircraft/spacecraft technology? If the government does have information on extraterrestrial life, why should it be revealed?
I realize the common argument: We're paying for it... so we should know. But at what point does revealing information and technology sacrifice our security... no matter how "interesting" it is to the public? As far as aliens and such... if it's true, can the public really handle it?

People become so outraged at the theory that the government covered up a "sighting" or some level of security information, but in a way, I really wouldn't want the public to know either.

Thoughts?
