Smith M&P

Anyone have any experience with this gun.  Having a close out on Smiths near me.  Looking at the 40 or 357 Sig.  Good, bad, or no comment? Thanks.

I bought one about 2 months ago. What with the weather turning nasty here in Ohio, I've only run about 50-60 rounds thru it. It feels real good in my hand, as I have short fingers, and a friends Glock I shot a few years ago, just felt to big and bulky for my hands. The only hang ups I've had, were with about 10 rds. of a semi wad cutter lead bullet I had loaded for a .40cal Firestar I own. It very well could be that the bullet is seated out just bit too much, as they feed ok in the Firestar. And that gun has been shot quite a bit. The few rounds of hollow point, and round nose feed with no problem. I sold a Colt .38super, 30 years ago, because it had feeding problems. But then I found out, that because I bought it new, and only shot 150 rds. out of it, it probably wasn't broke in. Accuaracy looks to be pretty promising, as the terrorist tree stump that I've shot at, has a 2''knot in it. That is my aiming point, and the group is right in there, and I'm shooting from 10yds. If I get a chance to run a few more rounds thru it in the next week or so, I'll put up a new post. We keep trying peace, it usually doesn't work!! Remember-(12/7/41)-(9/11/01) gypsyman

I bought a mp40 about two weeks ago and have put about 200 rounds through it and have had no problems what so ever. I do have two issues though with it but one I remidied first the front sight wasn't quite centered so I just drifted it over. ( remidied) the other is magisine rattle when you fill the mag past 11rds there is one round that slideds back and fourth. All in all I really like the gun. I bought a M&P40 last June, fantastic pistol, it has the best ergonomics around, and it's proving extremely popular.

I bought the MP 40 last summer and the MP 9mm Compact in Dec. 2006. I love these pistols. I'll be buying the 45 next month when it hits the market. The Springfield, 1911, 45 caliber, Micro Compact, is my wifes pistol.

I bought an M&P9 about 5 months ago.  The upside is the pistol has great ergomonics, feels good shooting and has fired all the low-cost ammo I've thrown at it.  The downside is that out of the box it shot 4"-6" low.  It's been back to S&W for a lower front sight and to have the front sight centered.  I haven't figured out how fire it (dry fire) without the front sight bouncing right.  Seems to be fairly accurate, but I've done better with the brands I chose not to buy when I bought the M&P.  Heck, I've even fired a Hi-Point and shot better than I do with the M&P.  I may be getting a "block" on this pistol or it may be one that I just can't shoot.  I plan to keep it and learn how to shoot it.  Until then, I'm not as enthused about the pistol as I was when I got it.

Practice practice practice!  When you are pulling off to the right it most likely means you need to change the position of your finger on the trigger, you aren't pulling the trigger straight back.  Try putting more or less of your finger on the trigger, usually you should pull with just the pad on the end of your finger, if you are right handed this would mean just your finger tip, your first joint would be to the right of the trigger.

Another thing to practice is to completely isolate your trigger finger from the rest of your hand, you should be able to move it without any of the movement feeding over to the rest of your hand.

You might also consider getting a trigger job from a good gunsmith familiar with the M&P, Dan Burwell is highly recommended for his work on the MP series pistols.

I have the M&P 9.I really like it.Had it about 3 weeks and have had no problems with it.Am going to get one in 40 also.Have been waiting on the .45's to come in also.They on the S&W website,but the 3 gun shops around me have them on order,but they have not come in.I think you will like the M&P......Rick
