ruger super blackhawk hunter: scope mount question, return to zero?

I bought one and was thinking I coud set it up for open sights for 50 yards and under and walking around and setup a scope for when I anticipate longer shots..

the question is with the supplied Ruger rings, if you get the scope screw torque consistent will it return to zero removing and remounting?

I tried it with my SRH 454 Casull with a 2x6x32mm  scope. It was close but not too the exact point of impact as it was prior to taking it off and reinstalling it.

mine was off about half an inch at 100..
41 mag hunter..usen winchesters um 170 hp silver tips i think the grains are...5$ a box i couldent pass it up lol

I believe the replies are useful, but I wouldn't have the confidence to take the shot - or would have enough doubt to mess it up. You are scoping for the longer shots where the error is even greater.

I suspect there may be other systems that return to zero better, or you could maybe have something made up specially if you were prepared to shell out the $$.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, but I've been there with systems on rifles that were supposed to be "perfect return to zero" and that's how I always ended up feeling. If you can get to take a shot or 2 to sort out the zero after fitting the scope again it's obviously problem solved.

I also would not take off my scope and then reinstall it without a trip to the range to make sure the zero is on.

the one i had i could take it off and put it back on with no difference that i could tell.  i never had to re adjust after putting it back on.   still,  i would always test fire after taking it off and putting it back on.

   I have had 3 Redhawks and 2 Blackwawk hunters with their mounting system. The oldest Redhawk would return to zero dead on everytime, at 100 yards. The last Blackhawk hunter returns to within a couple of inches at 75 yards everytime, the rest may or may not be within 2 to 4 inches at 50 yards. I agree with everyone else on this one, and would want to check it first before hunting with it.

yeah, I have never ever tried to do this on any gun, and absolutely believe in putting it on paper to see how it prints..

I am planning on doing the same with my SRH but plan to check the zero.  On my MKII it did not seem to matter with a red dot at 25 yds.

I actually have backed out of the deal and will be sticking with my 657 41 mag
it's just too sweet

I have 3 set of rings for my SRH - and none of them will return to zero.
At 70 yds - the first shot is about 4" higher and 2" to the right.

Then - it`s back to zero.

yup, i dont know that i would rid myself of that 657 for a blackhawk.   if you were going to buy it outright that is one thing,  but to get rid of the 41 to aquire the ruger would be something you WOULD live to regret doing.
