rifleling in the bc

got a buffalo classic awile back . do all the handies have shallow grooves? are just the newer ones its in a 45-70  i cast alot   and think i would have to hold the speed down to around 16/1800fps. any input on this

What measurements do you get?

Shouldn't the it be:

0.450 - 0.451 Land;
0.458 - 0.459 groove?

I am interested in a SB2-S57 and would like to know too.

I don't know what the exact measurements are, but the 45-70 is shallow. As far as velocity, though, there are people reporting well over 2000fps in the Handi and BC, so you should be good to go. With cast, the biggest limitation (for me, anyways) to velocity is you need to use gas checks.

All the Handi's have the shallow rifleing, not just the BC's.

The grooves are only 0.002" deep that is a pretty shallow groove and the barrels are button rifled. The obvious reason is is time and cost saving and less induced stress.

Less induced stress is beneficial when you are not stress relieving the barrels.
Even at that when the barrels are contoured after the rifling is done the barrel will expand to the out side when metal is removed to shape the barrel to it final contour, because the removal of the metal will also reduce some of the stress and relax the steel.

Hence the barrel will change interior dimensions the more metal removed from the outside the bigger the interior dimension is getting. This of course does not enhance accuracy.
