Birdshead on 44 mag Blackhawk
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:54:17 AM »
Can any type of birdshead grip be adapted to the Super Blackhawk, any model of the Super Blackhawk, since I haven't purchased it yet. I want to build a complete set of .45, 357, and 44 mag with 4 5/8 barrels and the ruger birdshead grip.

Minor fitting may be needed to get the frame/grip frame flush, but yes the birds had frames will fit.  Ruger actually cataloged a long (7 1/2") Vaquero with a birds head frame for one year.  I believe it was in .44 magnum but I never have actually seen one.   They also made small runs of Vaqueros in 45, and 357 with the birds head grip frame also, some cataloged, others weren't.

Yes, the frames are basically the same.  I fitted a birdshead to a Vaquero for a friend.

Birdshead grips and a .44 mag?  Uh, geeze!  Go for it if you can handle it! ???

I handle a lot more than that in my contender at times.   Recoil, I think is mostly a state of mind that can be overcome.  My 9 year old grandaughter can handle my 9" 30-30 Contender with no brake withou a problem.  No one has ever told her about recoil so she has no pre-concieved notions or thoughts about it.  She just aims, pulls the trigger and lets go a whoop of sheer laughter!!!  The Ruger will not be loaded to the max, as deer are not that hard to kill and neither are black bears.  I've killed enough of them to know! I will build the 45 first and see how that handles, and go from there.

MT30/30, Nice gun. Has that trigger guard been narrowed? Looks good and it's a 41, isn't it? Hunman55

I liike #2 better. I love roundbutted guns but the birdsheads are a little odd looking to me. I had a birdshead 45 for a while and the recoil wasnt that bad till you pushed 300s past 1100 fps.
