another 204 question
« on: February 14, 2007, 12:55:36 PM »
Ok guys, what grain of bullet do your handi's like in a 204 22 in bb.  Also what powders are you guys having good luck with?  going to start loading it here in a week or two.  I was hoping to use the hornady 32 grainers, do your guns like to group with these?

I've only shot factory in mine so far, but  I do  have 30 rounds loaded with 40gr Vmax and BL-C2 to try on the next range trip, when ever that is ::), it's Mitchell's load which is real accurate from all that's been posted on it. ;)

I shoot 32 gr. Vmax's over 30 gr of BL-C(2). Shooting for group one time before the weather turned bad I shot a 5 shot group of 1-1/4 inches at 100 yards. This was with support just under the hinge pin which I don't find to be very steady, so part of that 1-1/4 inhes is me. The rifle is 'out-of-the-box' with no mods at all. After mods which will be free floating the front of the fore-stock and adding a pillar so the fore-arm locks up steel-to-steel and bedding the barrel and lug to the action I fully expect to see 1/2 MOA with this load. Also, I am neck sizing only.

Hope this helps.

I had good results too with blc-2 and the 32's though I tend to use the heavier heads and I do get my best accuracy with 39 Sierra's and H4895

Any idea what velocity this Bl-C load is producing in your rifles?

I'm thinking that any powder close to Bl-C(2)'s burning rate that produces similar velocities will be a good place to start looking for the load that will work in my rifle.  These would be AA2230, WW 748, H-322 and -335.  Also the DATA powders which are also close, like 2200 and 320.  This is basicly the OCW load school of thought, which I have found to be working in several 223 rifles I have made varmint ammo for.

I hope I'm right because I have several kegs of this type powder but no Bl-C(2).

Velocity must be close to 4000fps I think. Haven't measured it.
