Oh why couldn't you have said 7!!!

    .22 Hornet
  .223 Remington
  .280 Remington
30/06 Springfield
30/30
  .357 Mag reamed to Max
45/70 Government

....<><.... :)

and perhaps a .35 Remington and .45 ACP thrown in for nostalgia and fun, as well a couple (or more)
of rimfires...shucks, there is not much chance limiting my choice to just 5!!!!! What about shotguns????

You see that is the challenge of the poll. I come up with about 9 that I would like to have. But I wanted to know if you could only choose 5 that tells me what people think are the best rounds out there.

I guess for me, in a Handi , it's would be:

-223
-243
-280
-30-06
-45-70

These seem to not only be among the most versitile, but also the more accurate barrels for a Handi.

I think this one might drive Quick nuts!!!   ;D

I went with the
22 hornet for small game,
223 for varmits and deer
357 mag reamed out to MAX for deer and small game
25-06 for long range vamints, and general big game.
45-70 for big game small game general fun

Most of my shooting now is cast bullets so the Hornet, 357, and the 45-70 would probably all be cast barrels.  I like the fact that I can make my own bullets and shoot fer dang near free.

223, 25-06, 280, 30-06, & 45-70. This is what I would do if this was my only gun. But since it isn't by a long shot I would replace the 30-06 with a 243.

Well, I saw the 30-06 but you said only 5, so even though I would like to have a 30-06, I could only give it an "Honorable Mention".   ;D

My choices would be the following.

1.  22 Hornet
2.  357 Mag (to Max rechamber)
3.  30-30 (spitzers give the 30-30 a new lease on life)
4.  25-06 (one of the few rimless cartridges I like)
5.  45-70 duh..  can take anything that walks, crawls, swims, slithers, or flies on Earth.   Including city buses, noisy 4 bangers, and lightly armored vehicles if properly loaded.

I'd trade the Hornet for the 44 mag which isn't on the list either....

243 win

30-06

45-70

12 guage

I can hunt ANYTHING in the world with this one gun.
