1911 Grips
« on: February 15, 2007, 03:47:32 AM »
I've just bought a Taurus PT1911 and so far I love it--except for the black plastic grips.  I would like a reasonably priced set of wooden grips, so I set off on an Internet search.  Cheaper Than Dirt had a great deal on Colt walnut grips, but the shipping was more expensive than the grips (which weigh less than 2 ounces).  Where should I go to find a good deal on a set of wooden 1911 grips--without exhorbitant shipping costs?

There are a ton of 1911 grip makers out there. Most good ones charge $40.00 and up. Go to www.midwayusa.com and look at their extensive selection for a good idea. I personally wouldn't put Colt grips on a Taurus pistol, but that's just me. :)

J-Train,

You might try Hogue at www.getgrip.com or their auction site.  There should be a link from their main site.  You should be able to find a decent pair there.

:D Thanks, guys.  I found a good deal on a set of Hogues at Midway.  By the way, if anyone's interested in the Colt grips on Cheaper Than Dirt's site, they were generic walnut grips (checkered) without a Colt logo.  If you're ordering from them anyway, the shipping probably wouldn't be a issue.

Midway has some pretty nice looking grips for less than $25.

If you want some really nice grips for a 1911 go to www.gungrips.net. Prices seem darn good too.

Try www.cdnninvestments.com/ too.  They have great prices on the 1911 stuff and everything else too.  I love the 1911 IAI rubber wrap around grips there really affordable too.  I'm also using the IAI National Match Barrel bushing too from CDNN.

I purchase from this site whenever I need something pretty with nice grain. It's not the least expensive and there are so many good ones out there.

Hey Broom Rider, that's a great website.  Those grips are really nice, and I like that you actually get the set you choose.  Unlike Hogue where it's the luck of the draw on what kind of figuring the grips will have.  It's definitely worth the extra $20 especially when shipping is included.  Thanks for sharing.

You're most welcome. I've probably bought somewhere near 10 pair from her now.
