Can you tell me anything about these S & W revolvers?
« on: February 15, 2007, 05:12:49 AM »
  I've been offered these Smith & Wesson revolvers on a trade, and I don't know anything about S & W.  This one is a .357: http://www.mausercentral.com/mcgallery/./data/media/3/S__W_357magnum_2-inch_barrel.jpg
And this one is chambered in 45 LC: http://www.mausercentral.com/mcgallery/./data/media/3/S_and_W_45_long_colt_6-inch_barrel.jpg
I like to know a little about a firearm before I buy it or trade for it, so anything you can tell me would help.  Thank you for taking the time to look and advise.

I second on the smith forum.  Their are a lot of collectors on that site that can tell you more about them.  The 357 looks to be in good shape, but the nickel 45 looks a little ruff.  You can also get an idea of what people are asking for them on gunbroker or gunsamerica.  Do you have any idea what model numbers they are?  That would help your search much more easy.  Hope this helps

No, I don't.  I sent an e-mail asking for them, haven't heard back.

The .357 is a model 19, nothing rare or special about it. The .45 would be a model 25 almost assuredly unless too old for model numbers. Hard to say for sure but mostly likely not that old so a M25. Could be the 1950 Military tho. At least that's what I recall from memory without looking that one up.

The first one is a 2 1/2 inch model 19, or if it was made before about 1957 it could be what they call a Pre model 19, Combat Magnum. It's not rare, but this one is old enough to have the desireable "pinned and recessed" features, meaning a pinned barrel and recessed chambers.

#2 is an oldie, looks like a triple lock. But I don't know much about these older models.
