Savage 110FP .308

I recently purchased a used Savage 110FP in .308.  I am thinking about replacing the stock and just want to make sure that I get the right one.  I understand that the 110 is a long action but the .308 is typically considered a short action round.  I would assume that any stock made for the 110 Savage should fit but before I spend the money I just wanted to double check.  Also, any suggestions on the best aftermarket replacement stock.

Yep, the 110 is the long action.  As for stocks, how much do you want to spend?  Since you bought a tactical rifle, I figure you want a synthetic stock.  The Bell & Carlson Duramaxx stock is a pretty good deal at $100 or so.  Hogue is making the Overmolded stocks for Savages now, but they are hard to find, from what I hear.  The Hogues range from $130-$200.  Then you move up the price range to the B&C Medalist stocks for around $275. Stockade makes some nice stocks in that price range too.  McMillan stocks start at about $400, and so do Sharp Shooter's Supply stocks.

Numrich had the B&C Duramaxx stocks on sale recently in their clearance section.  I got one for my 110FP and am quite pleased with the value for money.  I haven't had a chance to shoot it since installing it.

The stock required a bit of modification to allow use of the original stock bolts.

I've had 2 Duramaxx stocks, both for short action 10FP.  One went on a rifle with an Accu-trigger, no problems at all.  Dropped right in and worked great.  The other went on a non accu-trigger gun, and it took some fitting in the action and barrel channel to work.  It was older than the other "good" stock.  Perhaps the tolerances have gotten better?  I still say for the money, they are hard to beat.

I replaced the stock on my 110 FP (25-06) with the B&C Duramax stock and I was very happy with the results. The accuracy improved slightly with the new stock.

 Not just any stock will fit!!!
Savage 110 long action has a center to center of 5.062"
Short action has a 4.275" center to center


Some small calibers came in the 110 long action, go figure.

I understood the Savage long-actions were model 110's and the short actions were model 10's.  You state yours is a .308 short action, so I assume you have the model 10.  It might be worth checking w/ Savage Arms before you purchase another stock.

I'd imagine that the actual model number is on the barrel of the rifle.

How do you like you 10FP 308...I just bought one today...I put a Leupold VX-2 3x9x40 Tactical scope on it and a different recoil pad...

Until Savage developed the 10 series all the guns where built on 110 series actions they just put a magazine block in them. I have a 110 tactical in 308 win one of the most accurate rifles I have ever owned shoots one hole groups at 100 yds straight out of the box.

I have no complaints with the Savage other than I do not get to shoot it enough.  I put a new Leupold on it and it sighted in faster than any rifle I have shot.  I am still trying different loads (factory and reloads) in it but getting 1" groups at 100 yards is not a problem.  I still have not bought a new stock and as long as it keeps shooting like it is I may not.  I have some friends with rigs they have over $1000.00 in and I can shoot just as well with the Savage at less than half the cost.
