Turkey Hunting?
« on: February 15, 2007, 09:02:38 AM »
I have a Stoeger O/U Condor 12 gauge, that I will be using this year for first time turkey hunting.  I have two extra full chokes coming for the shotgun.  My question would I do better getting after market Turkey chokes and if so which ones?  I have not had a chance to pattern this shotgun yet (waiting on the new chokes), however, will probably using 5 shot from a known company in 3" shells.

you will just have to see what that particular gun patterns well with.  Try everything from modified to extra extra full and see what your gun likes with heavy loads.  also try different shells/manufacturers if you are going to go the factory ammo route.

If you're planning to call them inside of 40 yards those choke tubes should do just fine. Way more is made of super chokes for turkey hunting than should be. It's more about calling them in range than about shooting them from 60-70 yards with a super choked gun. I have a friend in PA who could use a .410 if he wanted to he calls them in so close before shooting. I don't think he ever shoots much if any over 20 yards.
