I am new to loading and looking for recipis for 130 grain speer point bullets. And this is a stupid ? but do you have to crimp the case in a single shot? And what dies do you recamend to use?

Used to have a Handi 30-30, really enjoyed it.  I loaded 150 gr. spire point Hornady bullets in it and a lot of 110gr. round nose.  Had a lot of fun with the 110 grain bullets.  I used IMR 4064 and 4895 in all my 30-30 loads with good success.  Accuracy ran under 2 inches at 100 yds.. with all my bullet weights though I never saw how fast I could push them.  I never crimped the bullets.  Just my 2 cents worth.  Get a reloading manuel or search the web for load data.  Have fun and good shooting.

I've had good results on deer with the Speer 130 FP in my 30/30 Savage singleshot, full penetration and large exit wound on broadside shots.  I don't crimp for the singleshot because I like to seat the bullet out just short of touching the lands, however I don't think it would do any harm to crimp.  I've always liked Lyman dies, I think they are very good quality for the price, but I'm not sure there are any bad dies, the only bad die I've ever gotten was an RCBS which didn't resize 6.5x55 brass enough to hold a bullet. The general opinion seems to hold that RCBS is very good and Lee pretty poor but in that instance I replaced the RCBS with a set of Lee dies and was much happier with the results.

I have loaded 125g Remington PSP's for my wifes bolt action .30-30, and used the same loades in a single shot rifle too. They are loaded with 37 1/2 grains of H335, Win primers, and are not crimped. They travel at 2600 fps out of a 22" barrel, 38 1/2 grains is doing 2650 fps. There was no preasure signs in my rifles, but you should work up your loads and watch for preasure. I prefer using 150g bullets for deer hunting and have found H335, and IMR 4064 work very well for them. I have notes on some loads if you want more info on velositys that I got.
