savage99 .300 to .250 savage
« on: February 15, 2007, 10:53:00 AM »
i have 2 old savage99's in .300 savage , one was made in 1947 and the other in 1951 , the one from '51 in inherited from my grandfather and the one from '47 i bought second hand a few years back at a really good price but , it isn't in that great of shape ( rust on the barrel ) so i was thinking about rebarrelling it to .250 savage , aside from installing sights on the barrel ( i still want open sights ) what other things and items will i encounter ????

What advantages do you see with the 250 over the 300?

Savage used different rotors for the 250 & 300's the 300 won't work from one made for the 250, but the 250 may feed "OK" from one for a 300 you will prob. have some feeding issues. Ask the guys at this link they will know for sure. Also the cost of rebarreling a 99 is very high.
