Win 94 "Big Bore" in .444 (not the Timber Carbine)
« on: May 08, 2003, 09:54:43 AM »
Found one NIB for $340. I like the full-length mag tube (as you may have noticed on other posts) in a big bore. Tell me what you know about the action, accuracy, etc. Apparently Win doesn't makem' in this cal anymore. I know the receivers have been beefed up (see Timber Carbine), but do you think the extra metal detracts from the looks?

Well, I did some more searching and found a NIB Win 94 BB for $299. For that price, I can't go wrong. Here's what convinced me to buy one( And I'll preface this by saying that I've never laid hands on one, so I don't really know how it will "feel"):

1) Only "reasonably-price" big bore I could find w/full-length mag tube.
2) 2 more rounds in the tube and only 1" longer and 0.5 lbs heavier than my Marlin GG.
3) Beefier receiver (50K vs 40K psu on the GG).
4) Paco Kelly calls the Winchester Big Bore 444 his favorite levergun.
5) $299!

Of course, after all is said and done, I might take it out and shoot it and hate the dang thing. We'll see I guess. I'll let everyone know. Nothing wrong with the GG, I just want a more classic-looking big bore.

Litefoot-

Just curious, how well you are getting along with your new Winchester .444 "Big Bore" M-94?  Have you had a chance to fire it yet?

Just curious 'cause I see you haven't updated your post since you decided to purchase it. :?:
