ported barrel or no

hey guys, ive been on here for quite a while but havent posted very much at all.  anyways I am getting a glock 21 and am really excited about it.  problem is i have lots of lead ammo so i want to get an aftermarket barrel.  ive heard the lone wolf barrels are pretty good, and i can get one on ebay for about $90.  are these barrels good or should i go with another?  also i was wondering if i should get the ported barrel, i think it looks cool but i just wonder if i would get sick of it, and do they work good?  sorry but one last question, will a 10mm barrel fit right in the g21 and will the ammo fit in a 45 clip?  thanks a lot guys i really appreciate it

I like my Lone Wolf barrel, but instead of buying it on EBay go right to the company web page.  You may be able to get it from the manufacturer for a little less.

I have a glock 20C 10mm. I love it. The compensated version definatley helps with muzzle flip and gets you back on target for quick follow up shots. I'm glad I went with the compenstated model. As for the 10mm barrel, I don't think it will fit into the slide and work. The .45 barrel is larger than the 10mm barrel so I think the 10mm barrel will have a bit of play in the .45 slide. However, I could be wrong. there are a few people on glocktalk that have done 10mm conversions. Look in the 10 ring group over there for a safe answer to your conversion question. I say just get the 10mm and never look back!!!!

If this gun is for self defense which COULD occur after dark or in a dark environment the muzzle flash will night blind you!!!  Targets are one thing, things that shoot back or bite in a dark environment are another. Food for thought........

No doubt about it that the ported barrel on my G19 (Lone Wolf) has a lot going on at the muzzle each shot.  Lots of gasses going up in front of the sight.  I wouldn't want to use it in the defensive posture we were trained in where you hold the gun by your chest and lean over it when shooting.  You would get a face full.

Anyone tried the Stormlake barrels with 6 port holes, 2 in the front and 4 in the middle?  Any issues with gas blow back in the face or operation of the slide as it moves over the holes.  At least I think the slide does in recoil.  Thinkling about getting one and trying the decide between them and the ones with slots for porting in the front.

I think the barrel you are talking about is designed to work with a slide that has porting holes cut in it.  I am trying to remember if the factory compensated Glocks have four holes in the slide top.  I only remember two, but may be wrong.

I haven't shot a compensated Glock that vents through the slide, but have shot a compensated 1911 45ACP, and it didn't spit anything back.  But with any compensated pistol if planning to use it for personal defense you may as well forget shooting from the low ready position.  You will get a face full of hot gas.

Because the .45 is a low pressure round, it doesn't create enough pressure to make a lot of difference. It does help some, but not enough to put up with the annoyances of a ported barrel. The Lone Wolf barrels are about $90 new from their web site. I prefer them over the Storm Lake or FO barrels.
