45 COLT CARBINE AVAILABILITY
« on: February 16, 2007, 06:50:48 AM »
I contacted H&R about the 45 Carbine today, they're shooting for the end of March. :-\

Sorry Mc, it's gonna be a while longer. :'(

Does that include the accessory barrels?
shot placement is everything.

No, the complete rifles may be available the end of March, accessory barrels won't be available to until later, as usual. ;)

Correct me if I am wrong, but shouldn't that carbine be able to easily handle full throttle Ruger loads???  Any reason why it wouldn't be able to throw hardcast well?

I'm sure it will handle the pressure, but real question is... Are the barrel dimensions going to be suitable for cast?  Is going to be overbore with a tight chamber like the 38-55 is cursed with?  If they do it right, it will be a heck of a good 50 yd southern Whitetail thumper.

Ian,
If they do it right, you should be able to add 100yds. to that 50yds. you mentioned!

150yds with a 45LC?  That's just a bit optimistic isn't it?  I might stretch it to 100yds, but only with an ideal standing broadside shot.  To each his own I suppose.

A good bullet should punch straight through at 150 yds.  A REALLY good bullet should punch through both shoulders at that distance.

I shoot 250gr Hornady XTPs over 1300fps and 300gr XTPs near 1200fps from a 6" barrelled revolver.

From a 20" barrel, at 150yds, the 300gr should still be well over 1000fps.

I am certianly no expert on ballistics, but I have significant experience deer hunting(killing).  I believe that if you can hit it correctly at 150yds with a very warm .45 Colt load with a good bullet, you can kill it.  The important thing is whether you can hit the vitals.

I just found out today that the Handi is available in .45LC [picked up a catalog at the local toy store.]
Can anyone tell me what the MSRP of these is?
I've been wanting something like this for a while to go with my Ruger Blhk in .45lc.

MSRP is about $440, retail is $325-$350, about the same as the .45-70 BC.

Got to see one today.  I am travelling in Eastern KY and went to a store I had not been to before.  Their prices were a bit high, regular Handi 270 for about $279, and the 45 colt was $449 there.  To much for me.  I suspect other stores will have them fore less.  Otherwise I liked it.  I like the straight grip stock in particular.  I would not mind a model with regular blueing, and in 44 mag with proper bore size.  Barrel is tapped for a scope like regular Handi's are.

I suspected it would be D&Td just like all the rest of the rifle barrels!! ;) That shop is selling for MSRP, guess they feel the need to make as much as they can to stay in business but they'd better be willing to dicker on the final price. :-\

Thanks for the report!!

;DIt is Here!!! My 45LC Carbine arrived this morning on the truck from Zanders.  It sure is a beaut!  It is drilled and tapped.  Our shop is selling at $389.99 retail.  All I have to do now is pay for it!

Could a person get a carbine stock and put it on a regular hani-rifle ? or is there some gunsmithing or design problem.

ALL stocks, except the 10ga and 12ga slug guns, fit all frames, they can be ordered direct from H&R, the BC stock set is about $140 shipped.
