Gardener's furious blast at cannon thieves

A FURIOUS gardener has blasted thieves who pinched a prized cannon.
Richard Large (44) was stunned to find burglars had made off with the 4ft-long antique cannon, which took pride of place outside his home in High Road, Guyhirn, near Wisbech.

The landscape gardener picked up the historic cannon, believed to date from the Napoleonic era, at a car boot sale in Whittlesey two years ago.

Mr Large put it out of action by welding its fuse opening.

But he is today livid after the 2,500lb cast-iron cannon was stolen from his front garden on Monday morning.

He said: “When I saw it had gone, I was spitting feathers – I felt absolutely savage.

“It was a really nice feature in my garden and everyone commented on it.

“I’m not really into my history too much, but it was great to have an authentic cannon in your garden.

“I go to quite a few car boot sales and I’ve never seen anything like it – it’s unique.”

A police spokesman said: “Anyone who has seen a cannon fitting the above description should call police on 0845 456 4564 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.”
SO if you find an English lad with a broken drill in an old cannon----- ;D
 you know what to do!

Well worth the APB!

Does he live near a college?  That's a real prize for a college prank.
