Scope for new Super Redhawk .44mag

I've been looking through the scope options for my Super Redhawk .44mag. I would like to use this as a deer gun and would also enjoy doing some long range plinking with it. I do believe you get what you pay for with optics. I want a scope that can hold up. A variable woud give me some flexibily but can they take a beating? I've looked at Nikon, Leupold, Burris. Is there an obvious choice for a quality variable power scope. I'm asking for opinions so fire away.

I have been using Bushnell's Trophy 2X6X32 handgun scopes for quit some time now. I have been using them on 460 and 500 Mag's. If they will hold up to there recoil, the 44 Mg would not be a problem.

I have a 2X Leupold on my RSH in 44 mag and a 4X Leupold on my RSH in 454. I had a Burris 4X on the 454 but a friend made me an offer I could not refuse. I have also played with the TC Recoil proof scopes. I put a 2X7 on my 454 for awhile but the scope was not easy to see thru at higher powers and the eye relief was much shorter

Are you lookimg for a fixed or variable power?  For fixed the older Leupold 2X are great for variable I went with the Burris 2-7x works great.  If I where looking now I would check out the Mueller, I have been hearing foor things about them.  All three have a lifetime warranty. 

Also, you should check out Midsouth and The Optic Zone for your scope both are excellent to deal with.

I'm leaning to a variable because it gives me a little more flexibility. I wouldn't need more than 2X to hunt deer, but I'd like to target shoot at some longer distances so it would be nice to have at least 7x. I have checked out some of the places you mentioned, thank you. As soon as one feels right I'll pull the trigger.

I don't know what brand you are leaning towards but for my self its Leupold, Leupold, and Leupold.  I'm crazy about their "no questions asked" lifetime warranty (even if you ain't the original owner!) and the great turn around time on their repair work.

I don't own a Leupold yet. Their warrenty is tough to beat and their quality has always been high. Nice article in the last issue of my NRA magazine.  I have all Nikons on my scoped rifles so far(3 Monarchs, a Buckmasters and Prosraff). I've never had a problem with any of my Nikons but I did have a Simmons that croaked on me after about 70 rounds through a 308.  I was reading through some of the scope reviews on Midway and,while most people raved about their Leupold glass, several had less than satisfactory results on their high powered handguns. The general quaility of optics has improved, even on the lower ends, with better manufacturing techniques so maybe a person can get by with spending less these days. So to answer your question, I think I've narrowed it down to Nikon, Burris and Leupold, in that order. I haven't been in a store yet where I could compare them side by side (might get down to Cabellas this week).  Thanks for  the advice.

I have the 2x7 burris on mine I really like it.  What kind of accuracy do you expect out of it with standard /factory loads. I haven't shot mine enough to know thanks Jim Please give me some variables loads range etc thanks again

I finally put a Leupold 4X on my Ruger SRH 44mag, 6 1/2" barrel.  I've gotten nice tight groups with H110 and 240gr Nosler JHPs.  My scope started sliding on me after about 100 rounds. I had earlier lapped my rings with the wheeler rod prior to mounting, but forgot to loctite the threads so they worked loose. Only about 200 rounds so far with this scope, but it seems to be holding up.  I almost wish I would have only gotten the 2x though, because the field of view with the 4x is limited.
