How's the steel inventory doing?  Anything in the range of 1.75" dia x 7+" long (for a 10" Rodman) ?

I'm sure that I've got something - might be 4130 or 4140.  Let you know later today.

Looking in the secret stash I found a few pieces of 4140 (4 ea. 2-3/4" dia x 11" long and one about 2-3/4 x about 48" long).

Looking in the secret stash ...

If this is your personal supply, I am not so poverty stricken as to need to take it.

You looking for any steel  or stainless? I have lots of 4140, 1045 and 1018 in 1.5-2" dia range. All I can find in stainless is sections around 4" long. Somewhere I have the bar I was cutting the small sections off. My shop tends to be a blackhole for metal sometimes, though! :o

You looking for any steel  or stainless?

Thanks for asking but I was looking for material from the 2007 International Open supply of mostly SS rems to remain in contest mode.  I have plenty of steel in my shop so I don't need to deplete other peoples' personal supplies.   ;D

The super-secret stash is off-limits, but the the secret stash is AVAILABLE.  It is my contribution to the contest - resulting in cannons/mortars being built and plans being published - that fits in with my philosophy of  supporting the black-powder mortar and cannon community.  (But you get to pay the postage.)

I found a few pieces of 4140 (4 ea. 2-3/4" dia x 11" long

OK, then, I will take one of these pieces and rescale the Rodman for .69 cal.

I thought SS was what you were looking for. That was why I originally was just listing my SS sections and not the 4140 etc. I have three crates of "stuff in the back of the shop that has survived three moves without ever having been sorted. It is mostly Al and magnesium blocks, but I saw some SS sticking out the other day. I'll be out in the shop tomorrow morning and dig through it and list the SS I find here. It'll all be type 316 SS..not the most tool-friendly, but takes a real nice finish.

OK, guys, you don't have to fight over me.   ;D  The finish dimensions for a .69 cal version are 2.25 dia x 9.62 length.  Don't both of you send something.

Why not?  You could then make TWO.  Perhaps offer one as prize for the NEXT contest?

Hah! No fighting....I was jut going to post a list for anyone needing stainless hunks to supplement the other list going. Besides, if it stuff I've been lugging around for 10 years, someone else might as well get some use from it.

I thought the other bar coming to you was 4140 and not, stainless, though

CW's offer is 4140, and I'll take a piece of 316, too.  That prize idea is a good one.  But then why would a maker need one made by someone else?  Maybe a prize for some other activity.

Good news is I found a ton of stuff I was missing..everything from metal stock to tooling. :D

Bad news is my stainless scrap was limited to items not too useful to cannon making. Mostly thick rectangular barstock and sheet. here's what I have that may be of use:

1.5" x 0.40" rectangular in random lengths around 10-12"
0.730" dia x 8.5"
similar to above but last 4" is threaded and ~0.790 OD
2"OD x 3" L
1.9" OD x 2"L coarse threaded rod of some sort.
a few pieces of 0.745" OD a coupe inches long
3" OD x ~2" I have no idea what the alloy is but it hasn't rusted in 12 years being stored around corrosive chemicals and wet conditions

all my other rounds were 1018, 1045 or 4140
