Encore 45/70 CUP
« on: February 19, 2007, 11:50:26 AM »
Hi Guys, What is the max pressure an  Encore in 45/70 will handle? I'm assuming that they will not manage maximum  Ruger #1 loads.

Where does TC say Marlin loads for the Encore? I have never seen that. I load full house loads all the time. They chamber this in a 300 win mag,and 375H&H. I would think those callibers would both be beyond 45/70 presures.   KN

I called them, you can also call them and check for yourself.  But that was what I was told from one of the tech's.  So that is what I stick with in my Encore 45-70 barrel.

And even Trapdoor loads can kick like all heck in the light Contender Carbine.   Mine has heavy laminiated stocks and it still beats me up with top Trapdoor loads off the bench.  I use loads of BlueDot with 300-grain HP bullets for most of my shooting with it, very accurate, the power of a .44 Mag and relatively light recoil and blast.  Realize that BlueDot loads may be low velocity (1200-1400 fps) but they can give high pressures, be careful.  I have tried a lot of different powders in my 16" carbine and had poor accuracy luck with 2400, 4227 and 4198.  AA2015 has given the best accuracy with 'high power' - about 1650 fps.  It does kick though....

LoneStar,

How much BD are you putting under a 300gr. slug?  What velocity does it give?

Thanks.
