Colt or Colt-like?

Which SA is identical mechanically to the Colt?   I thought the Uberti's were, then I'm told they have different internal parts.  Hammer safety and some such.  I'd like to but a honest-to-goodness copy of a SA Colt.  Who makes 'em?

The only others I can think of without a transfer bar or coil springs (other than Colt and USFA) are the AWA and Charles Daly, both by Pietta.

Uberti  HARTFORD MODEL
Same as first generation Colt
Only differance is the safty on the hammer(Which is not really noticeable )

Why not a colt ? i got one of the custom shop guns comming out now and really like it ! a 44 spl.
i had to get over the cost ,but in the long run i think i did ok ! i have no plans to sell it but in a little over a year it has gone up $200.00 which might mean i am close to even since i have shot it ! i base the value on the new ones in the shop where i got mine . its funny but until i had a chance to shoot a colt i didn't believe in the colt feeling different than other guns sounded like hogwash , well i guess it wasn't hogwash ! to be honest i have shot quite a few other brand sa guns and none feel like a colt , some cost more most cost less , some shot smaller groups ,some did not !
just an idea , enjoy many rounds which ever gun you choose !

Colt & USFA.
If you don't have that money you can buy an Italian clone like Uberti, Pietta, Jäger, Armi San Marco.
Look for 4 clicks when you cock the hammer and if you don't like the hammer safety, well just take it of then...
You get a lot of fun for your money if you buy an Uberti for instance.

From matching the Colt 'Schematics' with Uberti, Pietta, and USFA, the Pietta  is very close, Uberti is next, and USFA is quite different internally.    A lot of the imported clones use the Uberti or Pietta parts.  The 'Hartford', as mentioned by m-g, if I'm not mistaken, is sold by "EMF Company, Inc. ", it may very well be as close as you can get to a Colt SAA.   If you want quality, well, a little tweaking by a gunsmith is good for all of them.   :D 

They're fun to shoot.

    Boy do I have to eat some CROW !   
     I pulled up both the USFA and Colt Schematics again, and they match very close.    Don't know what I had pulled up earlier.
     I'll be more careful next time I put in my 2 cents.   Sorry to have created confusion, we've got enough of that now days.

I owned an EMF 'Hartford' and was very pleased.  The only deviation from 'Colt' spec's is the cylinder base pin, which is longer so it can be pushed in to block the hammer.  It's a silly thing required by mindless beauracrats so the gun has a 'safety'  Of course it's not handy or easily usable in the field so what good it is?  You can cut the extra off the back end like I do, or get a belt mountain or Colt base pin and be good to go.  Of course there is nothing like having a pony on the frame of your gun.  There really is an undefinable difference that can't be attributed to design, metalurgy, or such.  It is just a 'feel' that the Colts seem to have.  My nickled .44 spl Colt was the smoothest, best timed single action I have ever handled.  44 Man

44 man , you are right , can't explain it but the  feel of a colt is speical ! I have one of the new custom shop 44's and it came with a warnning that it was an unsafe design , but built to org. spec. , guess all guns can be unsafe depending on which end you are on !

Everything is a matter of personal preference. Colt has made good guns in the past, but they have a reputation for being hit or miss at the moment. USFA seems to make good guns and Italian clone makers are supposed to be getting pretty good, with more consistent quality.
On the other hand, I prefer Ruger Blackhawks. I have large hands and I am a shooter, not a looker. I like adjustable sights. Again, just a matter of personal preference.

Tom C , preference is everything , I like rugers also and have big hands the colts I have with wooden grips fill my hand , the plastic don't the super blackhawk does also , and both of my frontier from colt has better adjustable sight than any ruger I own , for me the ruger is strong and with a good trigger job a nice package , the colt is accurate and mine so far have good triggers , but the loads I shoot in my ruger would destory a colt . Like i said i like ruger , but have had to return one to the factory for repair new out the box , they have problems just like all the gun co's. I guess to me a ruger is a fine tool and a colt is more of a work of art from the past , you can shoot the same gun your grandaddy shot with the colt !
