Yesterday afternoon, I went to check my feeders and see if anything had hit peas when I had a flat tire.  I had to call my son to bring a jack to lift my Bronco.  I sat down on his tractor we had in the field to see if anything would move when it was quiet.  I then saw a 4 point emerge and lope off accross a field then turn north.  I was amazed at that.  I watched him through my binoculars.  He was cast with a grey fur rather than an all borwn.  After that , a yote emerged and looked at me.  Alas my rifle was in my truck.  I watched as he followed the path of the deer.  I was taken by surprise by it all.  Now, I wish I had taken off on an interecepting path because he was truly following the buck.

I was thinking of trying to hunt some yotes after talking with the man who lets me on the land.  It seems there are more there.

I got out Cabelas to look for a decoy and call system that would not break the bank.  I have heard a caller in North Florida where I hunted last year.  I never though about hunting coyotes until I saw that one chasing good sized buck for Florida.  I am south of Tampa.  My son has shot three in one setting on a ranch not far from him.  I now have a cause.

Am open to calls and decoy suggestions.

I'm hunting coyotes for the first time this year also. During the past turkey season, I saw them run the turkeys off twice. Seems like all of a sudden they are everywhere in the WMA's around here. I've been practicing with a couple rabbit distress calls and a howler, and it was a great excuse to buy a new rifle (Ruger Hawkeye in 22-250). Remember - electronic calls are illegal in Florida.

Electronic calls for game are illegal.  I called FWC and they read that to me, and the answer is yotes are not game.  Now on a WMA, I suppose you would have to talk to the ranger and explain your intentions.

Ha Floridians, I don't know how it works in Florida, but in Alaska we can put in proposals for the Game Board.  These proposals are suggestions to change regulations on hunting.  Seem like the non use of electronic callers would be a good candidate for getting changed.  It sure is nice to call in a predator and have him focus on a speaker 30 to 50 yards away from you.

It would be a good thing to check out and see if you can get it changed.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
