Marlin 60 for smalll game...
« on: February 21, 2007, 01:28:01 PM »
I recently purchased a Model 60 with intentions that it would be used primarily for some open-sight plinking.
This is the first rimfire I've purchased and quite frankly with the weather here I haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet.

More and more I'm entertaining wanting to do some 22lr small game hunting which would probably require scoping it.

My questions are:

How is the Model 60 as a small game hunting firearm? Is it more than adequate, or

Would I be better off purchasing a bolt action 22lr. which might be a little more accurate and just scope that?

Thanks.

The modle 60 is a great rifle for small gameand has taken more then you can imagin i'm shure. I would get a fixed 4 power scope for hunting that all you really need. Just get a selection of different ammo and see whitch shoots best in your gun and then buy a bunch of that ammo you will find yourself shooting it a lot. Good luck with your new rifle Jason

Thank you for the replies.

Another question:

Are there any sort of quick disconnect rings available for a Model 60?

The grooved reciever is by nature a "quick release" system.  You will have to re-zero your scope each time you remove and replace it.  I suggest you mark where the rings are on the reciever to get the scope back to the same place each time.
