Dream Safari..........

If MONEY and TIME were not a problem, describe your idea of a dream safari.  Tent camp or resort type?  What would your battery of firearms be?  Length of time for the safari or unlimited?  And who would be your ideal partner for this dream?  Lawdog

Too many to really name.  Maybe spending a year hunting from Sudan (after Addax and scimitar oryx) into Ethiopia (mountain nyala and ibex), to Kenya for everything Kenya has to offer, into Botswana and Mozambique.  Then maybe a stopover in KwaZulu-Natal for nyala.

Have you had a chance to look at African Hunter by James Mellon?  It will sure enough light a fire for Africa deep inside you.  The book is incredible and encompasses nearly all of Africa, including the animals of each country, their habitats and some great hunting stories.  It is a must read.

Well since I'm already old and retired and didn't make it back in my working years when I actually had a decent income I know it ain't in the cards for me to ever see Africa. As a result I've really not researched what's available where but if money suddenly became no object I sure do have some animals I'd really like to take on such a trip.

It would be open ended if money were no object. When I was done I'd know it.

Game I'd really like to hunt would be: Cape buffalo, impala, kudu, gemsbok oryx, wart hog, red and black lechewe, gnu, eland. I'm sure there would be more of the plains antelope/gazelle I'd want if I set my mind to it. I have no real desire for lion or leopard nor for elephant or rhino. The interest just isn't there.

I'd really like to use a handgun (revolver) for as much as possible. Likely either a .454 Casull or .480 Ruger Taurus RB and iron sighted. I'd take along a .30-06 for sure and either a 7-08 or maybe .257 Roberts or .243 for the smaller stuff which really hold a lot of interest for me. If I couldn't do the buff with the handgun I'd just as soon skip it reallly so I'd need nothing more than the '06 as my heavy rifle.

In the shape I'm in (old and fat) it might take me 30 days to get in 10 days of hunting.

 I'd like to take a try for the most dangerous game.  After that, cape buff.

I spent three months hunting in Northern Alberta.  Two with a bow and one with rifle.  I had a riot.  I would love to do the same thing in Africa.
